NFL '13 SEASON THREAD

Here's a rule of thumb: if your stadium or arena is named after a website, an energy firm, or something unrelated to the city, then usually the stadium is poorly named.

Maybe Rahm can sell the Soldier Field naming rights to some buddies who run a hedge fund or private-equity firm and then use the proceeds to build a giant statue of a poor person getting rammed up the ass. The only question is whether to put it outside the giant publicly-funded sports palace or just put it right in Englewood.

I think some charter school company would be a better bet at the moment. You can even pitch the naming rights deal as being "for the children."

Well yeah but they might prefer to muddy the waters ever so slightly just so they can boast about it at the next Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago meeting.

If it's a pastiche of black culture, why are the Mannings dressed like people who like Mellencamp?

Hmm...maybe I should have just bought Argos tickets instead of going to a Bills game...oh well, too late now.

This is not a new rule: The 2012 official playing rules listed examples of prohibited acts that will result in unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, saying, “These acts include but are not limited to: sack dances; home run swing; incredible hulk

Well if we're not going to allow players to turn into aggressive, muscle-bound giants by being exposed to toxic substances, then we won't have much of a football league, now will we

Roger Godell may have seen the sarcastoball episode of South Park and thought it was a great idea. New rule will soon be teams have to appologise for scoring a TD.

The Bengals being on Hard Knocks is so cool. Last time they were on the show it was in Georgetown, KY, a place I've never been. This time they're in Cincinnati so I recognize everywhere these guys go in the city.

Plus, the 2009 team that was featured on Hard Knocks had Chad Johnson at his most annoying so I didn't really enjoy the show that much. This year's team is far more likable. Also, James Harrison is an insane person.

Roger Goodell is cracking down on human emotion now.

I see "dislodging the stick from Roger Goodell's ass" isn't listed as a banned celebration yet - maybe someone should do that.

That article is somewhat misleading - spinning the ball isn't a penalty, nor is spiking it, nor doing an Incredible Hulk move, nor anything else floating around the Interwebs of Outrage.

They do draw a flag if you do them in the face of an opponent. Which is, by definition, unsportsmanlike conduct and worthy of a penalty.

I know that doesn't fit the easy Goddell meme, but hey.

Yeah, you're right - the game would be so much better if players could spike the ball off the other team's helmets after a TD.
