What is the rules on rebrands in sports if an owner changes? Still the same.

Not sure of the exact numbers, but say Loria sold the team before the start of the next season, and the new owner wanted to do a rebrand. Would he have to wait another year or two, or could the changes take place immediately?

Nope. Same rules apply. Plus with a few tweaks, like number font and consistent coloring between the M and the other letters and maybe wearing the orange caps at home more often (day games), the Marlins have a solid identity.

Plus, in your hypothetical set-up, the new owner (purchasing and taking over by March 2014) would have to do focus group studies to make sure the identity work, and that would take place during the 2014 season. No owner is going to launch a rebrand without making sure someone likes it. Say what you want about any of the new designs in any of the major sports, but they've ALL passed focus group testing. They might have been the dumbest focus groups in some cases, but they passed.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

These three teams once had unique color schemes and need to get rid of the navy blue in their current color scheme in my opinion:

Milwaukee Brewers

Tampa Bay Rays

San Diego Padres

That would eliminate 3 teams that use navy.

Houston gets a pass because they "upgraded" from their previous colors and went back to a more traditional route. They also have orange as one of their primary colors.

Other teams like the Nationals, Twins, Rangers, Red Sox and Yankees will not be changing their colors anytime soon.

Tampa Bay's entire "upgrade" was a huge disappointment to me when they dropped the green.

is teal a troll, or does he just have the worst taste on these boards

WTF is your problem bruh?!!

Seriously....

ok obvious troll is obvious

Whatever dude.

Anyway sad that no MLB team is getting a complete re-brand.

yeah, miami should get a complete re-brand................

They should get a new owner. The new owner will then probably want to re-brand.

Failing that, I'd like to see black phased out more in favor of the "Marlin Blue" that is technically part of their current color set.

If they'd get rid of the black all together and change that cap to blue instead, I think it would be a really good look.

Thanks for the info guys.

And that scares the :censored: out of me that teams like the Rays, Bolts, and Sabres during the slug actually had focus groups approve that.

They really need to ask long time season ticket holders along with a mix of younger/newer fans to get a good idea. And more than just 100 people.

It varies by team, but I've heard in many cases season ticket holders are actual among the first to get polled. The problem there is that many season ticket "holders" are businesses, so you aren't necessarily getting a hardcore fan's opinion.

so i just went to the local lids store, and found the indian head Atl BP hat for sale...

Was it the actual BP, or just a fashion cap? Right after they decided to ditch the screaming Indian BP cap, Lids tried to capitalize on the design by releasing a bunch of fashion caps with that logo.

If it was the actual BP though, you better have bought all of em, because those things are going for a pretty penny on E Bay.

Did you get it? I've been looking for one but obviously none in California

They had one in the Lids down the street from my place a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, I bought it. I saw it the other day, and couldn't believe it, so I went back today, they still had em, so I bought one.

I is the actual BP hat. Diamond Era fabric and all. After buying it, and looking at it quite a bit today, I think it has become one of my favorites. I hated the design when first leaked out, but after seeing it, I love it. Honestly though... don't think it would have went well with the BP jersey.

If I were you, I'd go back and grab their entire stock of them. You could easily sell them on E Bay or to the guys on the New Era Cap Talk forums for $150-$200 a piece.

Really? That's surprising. I just saw one on E Bay a few days ago that was starting at $160.

Yes, but it doesn't look like anybody wants them at that price. I looked the other day after you mentioned the demand, and there were a bunch of listings with $70 buy-it-now prices, which means that basically a few people had gotten a hold of large quantities and would just leave the postings up until someone bites on them. If they really were going for upwards of $70, they would be auctions and not buy-it-now prices.
