True, but the game at Levi's is a championship one. The match at Yankee Stadium was just a friendly.

Would you rather see an NFL pre season game or an Arena Football League playoff game?

The Columbus Dispatch: Nothing has changed regarding the player who contacted the Crew since yesterday, Berhalter said. Multiple sources have told The Dispatch that the player in question is Sacha Kljestan, although Berhalter has declined to mention the player’s identity.

Although the Crew holds the top spot in the allocation order, it does not hold the top spot in the designated player allocation order. Although it’s not mentioned in the league’s official roster rules, players who come back to MLS and are signed to designated player contracts are subjected to a different order. A message to a league spokeswoman seeking clarification was not returned.

The Crew sits fourth in that order, Berhalter said. It means that should the league sign a player to a designated player contract, the Crew is not guaranteed to have first dibs on him.

Some very interesting stuff in there. It sounds like the Crew and the Galaxy are going to battle it out for Sacha Kljestan's services. More importantly, it seems like there is an entirely separate order for allocated DP's.

So MLS has invented yet another rule since Beasley signed with Houston? Duly noted.

Actually, it sounds like this rule has been around for a couple of seasons now. The Timbers owner said that there is a group of about 10 players who have been deemed too important/good to be on the allocated DP list. It's just that this is MLS we're talking about, so the rule was not publicly announced.

That's not what that quote says though. It also talks about how this isn't actually in the league roster rules which is, well, a joke.

That's just because the reporter didn't know. Many things are not publicly listed in the league roster rules. It may not be a showcase of transparency at its finest, but being able to make secret rule changes is a boon of flexibility for a growing league.

Wow.

Despite the fact he has spent a large part of the summer lobbying for a move to Major League Soccer, Jermaine Jones has turned down the biggest offer he has received to date.

Sources have confirmed to Goal USA that the U.S. World Cup star has rejected a 2.5 year, $6 million guaranteed contract from the Chicago Fire, leaving his club future in doubt, and limiting his options as the summer transfer window enters its final month.

The Chicago Fire laid out a sizeable contract offer that would have made Jones one of the highest-paid players in MLS, but the 32-year-old German-American decided to pass on the deal and wait for other options to emerge. Just where those new options will be remains to be seen.

There are reports here in Englandshire this morning that Frank Lampard may be loaned out to Manchester City until the MLS season kicks off. Arms are being thrown up in faux horror at the possibility of a former Chelsea player making such a move.

That is indeed what he's doing. Basically, it sounds like New York City gave Lampard the options joining David Villa in Melbourne City or staying in England for the time being with Manchester City. I know the QPR rumor was out there, but I think this is the City group's preferred plan.

According to some of the Chelsea supporters' groups, they will not begrudge Lampard if he did go on loan to Man City. He will remain a legend at the club for what he has done there.

Awfully kind of them to put Frank's mind at rest, I must say.

Any MLS Live subscribers? If so, are you able to watch streams on Firefox? I haven't been able to lately (but have before!). Internet Explorer works okay, but I just get a loading screen in FF.

Hey DG, I'm an MLS Live subscriber. I normally watch all matches through my Apple TV or MLS matchday app on my iPad. I know I can easily access my MLS Live subscription through IE but through Firefox I can sign in but have the same loading screen as you. It isn't just you mate.

It was confirmed late in England tonight on BBC by Pellegrini that Frank Lampard will be on loan to Manchester City from NYCFC starting this upcoming Wednesday (August 6) til January, in time for him to return for pre-season training with NYCFC. Man City plans to register Lampard for both the upcoming Premier League and Champions League so he's eligible for selection. Of course Lampard has to fight for a position, which will be tough for the 36 year old but he has experience on his side. I think he'll mostly be coming off the bench in a substitute role during his loan spell at City. Add another strong substitute on the bench for the Citizens.

Thanks for checking. That's really weird because it was working just fine very recently. Mozilla has been doing frequent updates as of late -- maybe they don't realize what they're breaking along the way.

I was surprised to hear this as well...he must really want to stay in the LA area or play for a current contender. It was also mentioned by Jones via twitter that the numbers reported were not the case so a grain of salt with this one.

Regardless I am still amazed after his WC performance that he's still available...hopefully not for long.

If anyone is interested, the NPSL Final is being played tonight between New York Red Bulls U23 v Chattanooga FC from Red Bull Arena. It kicked off at 9:30 PM ET right after the RBNY-NE match. The match is being streamed live on the RBNY website.

Yup, and Frank Yallop said that they'll get an answer from Jones in a few days. There's also a pretty shady rumor that Robert Kraft told some season-ticket holders at a party that the Revs just acquired a big player. I suppose Jermaine Jones could still wind up in MLS.
