This Sounders-Timbers game is the first MLS game I've watched in a looooong time and I'm pretty impressed, particularly with the atmosphere and the bad blood that seems pretty apparent between the two teams. Not to sound like the cliche American regarding soccer and the World Cup, but it's really made me interested in giving the Revs and the MLS a try ^_^

The problem with the Revs is that the Kraft family isn't giving them much of a try.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but MLS veteran goalkeeper Josh Saunders is apparently contracted to NYCFC but is on loan to San Antonio.

This Cascadia game has been great other than no goals so far. Id love for Nagbe to score a wonder goal and Dempsey get a scrappy goal too.

Also McCarthy, support the Crew man! They're in your backyard! And they drafted a kid from my high school in the first round last draft!

Well, he is moving to Seattle and also :censored: the Crew organization.

I tried supporting the Crew but it didn't take. Been to many a game going back to their Ohio stadium days but it's never felt "right". As I was telling crash on Twitter the Crew never really drew me in as a fan. It might be because I really don't like yellow and black (high school rivals plus steelers, penguins, pirates. Gross) or because Crew fans have always bothered me through one way or the other.

I've joked that I've thought about becoming a Crew fan but being a crew fan would involve dealing with other crew fans.

Also I'm moving to Seattle in a couple weeks so the Crew won't be in my backyard and the Sounders will. Plus Sounders is a way cooler nickname than Crew.

Truer words have never been spoken.

The New England Revolution (dis)organization is so dysfunctionally moribund that the only operation in all of Major League Soccer in worse shape than the Revs is Chivas USA. THAT is saying something!

The Krafts' stewardship of the New England Revolution is egregiously apathetic. Which is inexcusable given the fact that the Kraft family operates the New England Patriots as a benchmark, best-practices operation in the NFL - indeed, in all of professional sports. Meanwhile, the Revolution are a way to fill open dates on the Gillette Stadium calendar during the NFL off-season, while simultaneously driving middling amounts of "Soccer Mom" foot-traffic to the Patriots Place shopping center.

It doesn't help when you have a crayon-colored crest that looks like a 6-year old's art project.

I'm sure the way the Sounders fans were and how they played made them a lot of fans tonight, including myself.(At least until a close MLS team comes or the Railhawks move up, both unlikely.) Gotta capitalize at peak interest.

Really fun game tonight, made more so by the win. The Sounders and Timbers play each other pretty hard, and there was definitely some chippiness, especially in the first half. I'm glad it stopped before it got ugly though.

Clint Dempsey is the face of the team, but they play so much better when Obafemi Martins is on the field. Once Oba came in tonight, the offense flipped a switch. Donovan Ricketts is a really good goalie, but there was just too much for him tonight.

The Sounders are running away with the league at this point, leading their conference by 10 points and the Supporters Shield standing by 7. Nothing seems impossible for them right now -- MLS Cup, Supporters Shield, Open Cup, CONCACAF title, whatever. They've looked really special so far.

You are ABSOLUTELY right about that. I took my folks to the game tonight and they both loved it. I've been to a Sounders game before so I knew they were pretty fun, but even I was blown away by just how much of a good time it was. My pops usually hates soccer, and he was even into it more than I've seen him at most football games. That's incredibly hard to do.

This may be making a bold statement, but I really feel that Seattle does this soccer thing better than a lot of cities do pro football, and if they really want to grow the game the MLS better look to Seattle when it comes to marketing the game to the rest of the country. It's astonishing to see just how well the Sounders have it together, and tonight was just about the perfect situation the MLS could've envisioned. Great game on the eve of the close of the World Cup between the two biggest rivals in the league in a city that's fans are still riding the buzz from winning the Super Bowl. You bet your ass they gained a lot of fans tonight. 65,000 people for a pro soccer game. I NEVER thought I'd see that in this country. It was truly one of the most entertaining pro spots events I've ever been to.

Just like you, just like McCarthy, I'm hooked.

Also, I've just gotta show off this picture I took from my seat. Everything about it is just awesome.

I've always wondered why a team trying to market itself to people in Ohio would wear yellow and black which is almost exclusively owned by the hated city of Pittsburgh when it comes to American sports (except for the Bruins).

I think the Galaxy could become a pretty big threat to Seattle later in the season. We're on a seven game unbeaten streak, our defense has only conceded 13 goals this season, Omar Gonzalez could be sold in order to make way for a new DP (hopefully a CAM), and we still have three games in hand on the Sounders.

Seattle is such a great soccer city. Sounders fans are a cut above. If Qatar is stripped of the 2022 World Cup and we get it, Seattle should definitely be one of the 12 cities that gets to host some matches,

Definitely. The inclusion of the Sounders, Timbers and Whitecaps to Major League Soccer have allowed a more, broad American soccer audience to witness what Pacific Northwest locals have had passion for, for more than 40 years. The latest game they should get should be a quarterfinal game, but I wouldn't count on the Final game there. That'll go to either Los Angeles or New York City.

Tomorrow night is a big night for my hometown club the USL PDL's Victoria Highlanders FC. They will be hosting their first play-off match, sixth in club history. They will be facing the Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23s in the Northwest Division Play-off at Royal Athletic Park with a 7pm KO. The winner of this play-off match will join Kitsap Pumas SC (NW Div winners) in the Western Conference Finals. Winners of the two Mountain v Southwest Division play-off matches will also qualify for the Western Conference Finals.

I will be in attendance tomorrow night with our supporters' group, the Lake Side Buoys. Here's hoping we can get over 2,500 fans in at RAP to cheer on the lads tomorrow night. We averaged 1,500 fans this season at home (which was down from our 2,100 from 2013). Would love a full house!

Someone poke holes in this because I love this idea. Slate had an article saying that a annual July 4th US men's friendly vs England (non World Cup years) would be a great new tradition. The favor could be returned later or earlier in the year.

One year it's in Chicago, the next in Seattle, one in New York and then throw in a random place like Indy or Kansas City every 5 years or so. (Let Columbus keep the Mexico qualifier)

I think it'd make an awesome new tradition even if it wasn't England. Thoughts?
