The_Admiral
What a dopey title, though. Couldn't they have just called him "president" like every sports team that hires an old coach/player to override the general manager? It sounds like when the Dallas Stars named Brett Hull their "Commissioner of Fun." ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

McCall
LaRussa's job as Chief Baseball Officer, from what's been reported, seems to mean he's overseeing the front office, that he's basically watching over Kevin Towers and other front office personal as well as possibly the coaching staff, and evaluating them, potentially to see if they should be replaced or not or how they should do their job. Essentially he's the Bobs from Office Space. He has said there is absolutely zero chance he would manage again. Honestly I could see this end up being a temporary position with the possibility that he could take over Joe Torre's position with MLB if Torre were to become the next Commissioner, which is a definite possibility. https://dribbble.com/MakaioCall

DaRadniz29
Tony La Russa, one of the few Florida State alums I like, being a Gators fan and all. As for the better commissioner, if it were between La Russa and Torre, I might say that Torre has the edge given he's been in the business operations a couple seasons longer, but La Russa's law background, depending on how much the committee factors a law background, could make it more even between the two HOF managers. I think that MLB might lean more towards the "Executive Order" of MLB, that has been around Selig a bit longer. It shall be interesting.

I commissioner needs to be atleast a lawyer, there are lots of legal things that a commissioner would need to know that a former manager simply wouldn't. FiddySicks
I can't find the Minor League Affiliation thread, so I'll just post this here. It looks like the Sacramento RiverCats may be changing their affiliation next year from the A's to the Giants.http://www.kcra.com/news/local-news/news-sacramento/rumors-fly-of-sacramento-river-cats-changing-affiliation/26046018?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=kcra%2B3If Oakland does lose the RiverCats to the Giants, they had better do all they can to get the Aces away from the D Backs. Fresno would fit the D Backs better anyway, and it's stupid having the D Backs AAA affiliate in Giants/A's territory. McCall
Bud Selig has no law degree, but rather ones in American History and Political Science, and as previously mentioned, helped run his dad's used car business. And, despite some opinions around here, is actually regarded as one of the better commissioners in league history. Rob Manfred is the legal mind of MLB. Torre is considered one of the front runners. As a former player and manager in addition to his current position, that really provides a lot of experience in the various aspects of the game. https://dribbble.com/MakaioCall

I don't mind the A's leaving Sac if they relocate their AAA operations to Reno, and as long as the RiverCats keep an affiliation with one of the Bay Area clubs. Sacramento is going to be just fine with either team as their parent club. My only concern now is how this could potentially impact the A's if they do ultimately end up trying to move to Sacramento. I can't see the Giants ever trying to claim San Jose AND Sacramento as their own territory in an attempt to block the A's from moving anywhere in Northern California, but you never know. But I don't think he'll end up getting the gig. He'll be 74 in July. Hiring him means they'll have to search for another new commissioner again sooner rather than later.
