2014 MLB Season Thread

I can't find the Minor League Affiliation thread, so I'll just post this here.

It looks like the Sacramento RiverCats may be changing their affiliation next year from the A's to the Giants.

http://www.kcra.com/news/local-news/news-sacramento/rumors-fly-of-sacramento-river-cats-changing-affiliation/26046018?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=kcra%2B3

If Oakland does lose the RiverCats to the Giants, they had better do all they can to get the Aces away from the D Backs. Fresno would fit the D Backs better anyway, and it's stupid having the D Backs AAA affiliate in Giants/A's territory.

And Fresno isn't Giants/A's territory? How is Reno any more or less Giants/A's territory than Fresno?

I have to admit something that is rarely the case. I was wrong.

Your post confused me at first so I looked it up and am downright shocked to come to the realization that Fresno is actually closer to the Bay Area than Reno is. As long as I've lived in California, I NEVER realized that. I always had assumed that Fresno was further south (I've only been there twice and both times I slept during the drive). Hmm, you learn something new every day. There goes my first argument then I guess.

I had this whole argument set up about how Fresno was about equidistant from both LA and San Francisco so the fan base could be debated, but i's still closer to the Bay Area, and the proximity to LA would probably make it more in the Giants (and even A's) best interests to keep. So there goes argument #2.

I was going to argue population, but again, after some research, I find that Fresno is actually about double the size of Reno. Argument #3 collapses.

The one part of my now-shaky debate that I didn't completely blunder though is the fact that Fresno is closer to Phoenix by about 150 miles, so I guess that's something to take into consideration. But of course, flights from Reno to Phoenix still end up being cheaper than from Fresno to Phoenix, so this whole point I was trying to initially make has just about completely imploded.

Jesus, how did I know this little about Fresno?

So yeah, I got nothin now.

:censored: it, the Giants/A's should move their affiliate to Reno because I want them to and because Fresno sucks? :P

Tony La Russa: Chief Baseball Officer

already has been mentioned
Yeah, and Arizona drubbed the Dodgers in the first game of the La Russa era. Keep it flowing.
i give zero :censored:s
That's not true.

I listened to Tony La Russa give an interview the other day and he stated he is not a fan of modern metrics, especially defensive metrics and even went on to praise Derek Jeter's defensive prowess. Diamondbacks fans, you've been warned.

ok.... What does this have to do with anything?

AND This has everything to do to his managerial experience how???? He was a great manager. As long as he can bring a winning product on the field, that should all that matter. Ever think that he may be an old school guy that likes the game done his way? Or before all the sabre metrics came to be? Also so what about Derek Jeter. Everyone has an opinion about different players all the time.

Have either of you heard or seen a La Russa interview? The guy totally rejects modern metrics. He's stubbornly "old school". A PED hypocrite who trashes Canseco every chance he gets yet hires McGwire as a coach. We'll see how he does in Phoenix.

First Reds game I've watched in at least 5 days. Chapman blows the save in the 9th so we go to extra innings. Reds leave a bunch of guys on base (per usual) and then Logan Ondrusek gives up a lead off double in the bottom of the 14th so I go to bed.

Woke up to see Ondrusek got out of the jam thanks to a pretty game saving catch by Billy "Usain Bolt" Hamilton, Todd Frazier hit a home run in the top of the 15th, Reds win 4-3. Color me surprised.

The Cubs. Let that sink in.

And the Cubs are the team to hand Tanaka his first regular season loss since 2012.

And suddenly 106 years of frustration have been erased.

Don't you have some jorts to buy?

I had a feeling the Giants and Romo were gonna blow the save tonight vs Colorado. They've been great all year and Romo hadn't blown a save yet, but they were kinda due. I can't remember the last time the Giants dropped a game in the bottom half of the final frame, and I figured something had to eventually give.

Bummer. But man does Colorado look really solid this season. I wonder if they can keep this up.

I think Romo did blow a save this year, when Hanley tied it up in LA on Mothers Day. It seemed weird on Colvin's double how they initially gave interference on Tulo, but I guess they had overturned it.

What the hell does Samardzija need to do to get a win? Allows no runs, yet the Cubbies cough it up in the 9th against against the Yankees.

I wouldn't sweat it. He'll be playing for the other side by August.

Another game. Another Giant get's hurt. Hopefully Matt Cain is alright. I guess the Giants have joined the "Yes" movement.

Now middle reliever Santiago Casilla (who rarely bats if at all) gets hurt trying to beat out a grounder to first. I really hope the Giants season doesn't get derailed because all these damn injuries. Jesus!
