He's had his struggles, but how many pitchers can say they've won two Cy Young awards, been a big part of two World Series winning teams, and have two no hitters in their first six and a half seasons? That's insane.

Even when the Giants are slumping, they're still so much fun to watch. I love this era of Giants baseball, and hope it never ends.

yeah this no hitter wasn't nearly as impressive as Kershaw's 15 strikeouts against one of the best offensive teams in baseball and an MVP candidate in Tulo. I'm not saying this no hitter isn't impressive, but it just doesn't feel like it is compared to maybe the greatest game ever pitch just this month.

Also the first meeting between Dodgers and Cards since the NLCS, this should be fun.

Life must suck as a Padres fan...oh well at least their stadium's nice.

Kind of like being a Phillies fan, except you guys have Ruin Tomorrow Jr. And a couple of bad really contracts

The World Series helps ease the pain. Well...it did.

On force plays, catchers don't need to block the plate. They just need a foot on the plate a la any other base.

I think this goes back to the Reds-Pirates game a week ago when Devin Mesoraco ran home on a force play, the ball went home to Russell Martin who was on standing on the plate, they called him out, but then reviewed the play and determined that Martin was violating the blocking the plate rule and Mesoraco was called safe and thus scored a run. Clint Hurdle came out to argue and in violation of the rule that you can't leave the dugout to discuss an already reviewed play he was tossed.

It was like a big loophole in the both new rule about blocking the plate and the rule about not being allowed to discuss already reviewed plays that the league hadn't considered. It helps the Reds, but the Pirates got hosed. (Pittsburgh lost the game like 9-3 so thankfully it didn't ultimately effect the game too much).

If this helps avoid that kind of loophole, then it's a good change. Thanks.

The Dodgers must love embarrassing teams on national tv, because it seems like every time I'm able to see them on tv, they are blowing up the other team.

Also it seems like the plate blocking rule only applies to catchers which is incredibly stupid.

I can't wait till June is over. The wheels have just about fallen off for the Giants.

Things will straighten out once Pagan and Belt get back, and Romo gets dumped from the closer spot. I have a feeling that this team can find its way again and get the lead higher, but maybe I'm being too optimistic. Still, I don't think this will be as much of a mess as 2013, and that these guys can get their groove back.

Yeah despite how much of a disaster this month has been, they're still in first place. They're not dead yet, but they've gotta turn it around and fast.

And it's AMAZING how fast Romo lost it. I said a few weeks ago after he blew a save vs Colorado that it wasn't too big of a deal because he hadn't blown one yet and all closers are bound to blow a save or two. But since then, he's just been a nightmare to watch. It's a bit of a bummer because he's been pretty much lights out in the closer role until this month.

So, i just realized that the Padres are the only thing keeping this from being the first year where every California team in the playoffs. why do the Padres have to suck every year, because that would be insanely fun.

That would mean that both NL wild cards would have to come out of the West, which is highly unlikely even if the Padres were good this season.

If the season ended today, the Angels and Mariners would play for the AL Wild Card out of the West. It's possible.

In this year's American League, it's very possible considering how surprisingly mediocre the AL East teams' records have been and how weak the AL Central has been (as usual). However, a strong NL Central accompanied with the Braves, Nationals and Marlins all contending in the National League makes two wild card berths in the NL West much more unlikely than it is in the AL West (like I said, even if the Padres were contenders, which they're not, so there's really only two teams contending in that division and they're both likely to earn playoff berths. It's almost guaranteed that one WC will go to an NL West team and the other to either an NL East or NL Central club.)
