For the first time all season the Cincinnati Reds are above .500

This team has been a real snoozer and at times a little maddening, but lately they've been a lot of fun to watch.

Also, Devin Mesoraco has a home run in four straight games and he's hit for the home run cycle: first one was a solo shot, second one was 2 runs, third one was three run bomb, and he waited until the top of the 9th tonight, but he completed it with a grand slam so that's pretty fun.

The Dodgers lose which is good, but the Giants decided to crap the bed against some pitcher named Odrisamer Despaigne and the Padres and won't gain ground.(Seriously this is getting kind of old losing to beatable teams at home)

Fun fact of the day:

Mesoraco once played wiffle ball in my back yard.

For anyone that didn't watch the Nationals-Brewers game Monday night (6/23) on ESPN2. ESPN MLB Senior Writer (Insider) Tim Kurkjian was the Hot Dog (#4) in the sausage race at Miller Park.

Tim is 5'5" and is 57 years old. With the Hot Dog suit on he is 8'6" he said. Long time voice of the Brewers Bob Uecker gave Tim some advice before the game that was funny but I haven't been able to find a video of that conversion yet.

Well partially. They've dumped it on force plays at the plate. So you still can't block the plate, except with the bases loaded.

That's awesome! I talked to him for about a minute at a bar in downtown Cincinnati this past winter. Nobody really noticed who he was and I got a few encouraging words in. Really nice guy. Not as big as I would've thought.

Anyways, he hit a home run in a fifth consecutive game last night so that's cool.

On force plays, catchers don't need to block the plate. They just need a foot on the plate a la any other base.

I think this goes back to the Reds-Pirates game a week ago when Devin Mesoraco ran home on a force play, the ball went home to Russell Martin who was on standing on the plate, they called him out, but then reviewed the play and determined that Martin was violating the blocking the plate rule and Mesoraco was called safe and thus scored a run. Clint Hurdle came out to argue and in violation of the rule that you can't leave the dugout to discuss an already reviewed play he was tossed.

It was like a big loophole in the both new rule about blocking the plate and the rule about not being allowed to discuss already reviewed plays that the league hadn't considered. It helps the Reds, but the Pirates got hosed. (Pittsburgh lost the game like 9-3 so thankfully it didn't ultimately effect the game too much).

Tim Lincecum is three outs away from doing a certain something to the Padres for the second time in two seasons.
