The Marlins don't have unique uniforms. Unique logo? Yes. Unique uniforms? I'd argue against that.

The problem with the Marlins is their uniforms look incredibly amateurish. Like they were designed by someine who vaguely knew what a baseball uniform is supposed to look like, but not much else. The white script on the road grays is particularly jarring.

Granted, a lot of that is rooted in how they tried to do way too much with their rebrand.

The Marlins shouldn’t have rebranded, aside from the renaming of the team as the Miami Marlins. Changing the city name was the only part of the rebrand I liked. The overused black and orange tops look like junior high unis. The teal and black, with the slightest hint of orange was a fine look.

The Marlins original uniforms were an instant classic. Literally every tweak they've made since then has been a downgrade.

Wow, I totally disagree with this.  You may not like the uniform (I don't particularly love it myself), but I'm not sure how it's "amateurish" at all.

In what ways does it look like the designer didn't know what a baseball uniform looks like?

Also, I happen to love the white lettering on the gray.  Makes the gray... "grayer", and is a unique feature.

The Marlins current set is good. The problem I have is that they're not using them to their full potential.

Just like they're previous set, they chose to embrace black instead of the lighter color.

The A’s new alternate helmet really bugs me. It’s still not the right shade of green. It’s somewhere between their primary shade of green (which is too dark) and their current alt shade of green (which is too light). It’s basically the shade of green they should be using across the board. The A’s don’t need to go full out Kelly green, they just need a slight tweak to a brighter shade.

The other day I was watching footage of the 1991 College World Series and noticed Long Beach State was wearing essentially the Padres late 80's road design but with yellow instead of orange. It was absolutely beautiful. Gray uniform with brown pinstripes, LB logo on the chest in brown with yellow trim. Caps were brown with yellow LB logo. It really made me wish the Padres had worn that, or better yet, would switch to it now.

That's just it though... the gray needs to be darker to pull of a white wordmark.  As it is, it's not unlike all the low level collegiate teams I've seen that just slap the school's wordmark on to a template, hence, coming off amateurish.

I don't see what the issue is:

The wordmark doesn't blend into the jersey, largely because it has outline colors.

It seems like more of "Different = (insert negative adjective here)."

I think this is the first 3000th hit where both teams are wearing an alternate jersey

It's the only aspect of their new uniform set that I really like, and I was hoping that other teams - specifically those with scripts - would give white a shot.

I'd love to see some concepts of teams with white scripts either outlined or shadowed by their primary colors.  If the darker grays that the DBags tried ever caught on, white would be almost a necessity.

I really think you're exaggerating how well they pull that off.  If their entire brand is built around being the team with a bunch of different colors, why is most of your wordmark on your road grays devoid of color except for a few splashes at the bottom?

These would be much more tolerable if they limited it to the M on the chest.

I could see the White Sox pulling off something like this.  Maybe the Royals too if they went with powder blue.

Not really sure about anyone else though.

White Sox would be a great team to try it.  They have a history with all black uniforms, so moving to that darker gray shouldn't be an issue.

The White Sox actually did wear white scripts and numbers on their roads in 1969:

While always believing the 1993 unis were the best the Marlins ever had and then screwing them up for BFBS (another team wearing junk while winning the championship) but they did a good job in the revamping. I do like the grey roads with with script(maybe because no one else has it now) but I remember being on this board and some of the rumors were horrifying. Sort of like the Diamondbacks unis:lol:

The 1997 set is the best Marlins uniform set.

The perfect amount of teal and black.

Odd, I remember these being powder blue.  Not gray.  Unless it's just the lighting on the photo.

Either way, this was my basis for saying the Royals could pull it off.  Think the George Brett-era powder blue roads.  But with the white scripts outlined in royal blue.

The Nationals navy alternates - and the "Nationals" script itself - are growing on me mostly because of MLB The Show. In the game, I think they're a bit lighter than they actually are in real life (akin to the pre-2011 blue "DC" alternate) which makes the red numbers look better with the white outline. Also the angle of the script isn't so dramatic. It also, unsurprisingly, looks good with grey pants.

Image result for mlb the show 18 nationals navy uniform

In the years leading up to the 2011 uniform changes, the team added/tweaked its alternates and even road uniform. I wouldn't be shocked if these changes are in the same mold. They're trying new things out, with the understanding that they might overhaul the whole package in a year or two.

Understanding we're going full-curly with no chance of bringing back the far-superior bevelled identity (primary logo, scripts, interlocking DC, prototype W cap, all of it was better), I'd like to see the following... let's say synthesis:

Home uniform: All-red cap, "Nationals" in red curly script.

Road uniform: Blue with red bill cap, "Washington" in red curly script.

Home alternate: Red top. All-red cap, curly "W" in white. (unchanged)

Road alternate: Blue top. Blue with red bill cap, "Washington" and numbers/nameplate in white (or grey?) curly script.

Basically, cut out the stars/stripes nonsense (not to mention offensive), have two caps, and fix your nickname/city name to best fit each uniform.

What are people's thoughts on using grey in the top to match the pants like the Mets do with their blue/grey New York alternates?
