I think there’s some doubt, def about the 1st ballot part.

Maybe you're just trying not to oversell him because he was one of your guys (for awhile anyway), but the idea that Roy Halladay isn't a hall of famer (1st ballot, at that) is crazy to me. There are VERY few out there who I ever saw that were better than Roy Halladay and every single one of them are Hall of Famers (Well, Clemens, but that whole thing is just stupid).

Also, this video is absolutely HEARTBREAKING. I can't even imagine how destroyed she must be.

Doc is one of those players who might end up screwed on the HOF ballot because of the changing expectations for pitchers that the voters haven’t caught up to yet, but to me he is absolutely a Hall of Famer. I got into baseball just after he retired, but throughout my childhood he was the only Blue Jay worth a damn and I knew him as the best pitcher in the game. RIP.

No, I do think he's a HOF-worthy player, I just think that his win total might keep him out, or at least keep him off the first ballot because voters are buttholes.

He was the dominant pitcher of his era, and even though he didn't do it long enough to get 250 wins or whatever the "magic" number is now, he had two no-hitters (any assclown can have a lucky day and get one, but to be in position to get multiple ones is a true sign of greatness) and only the second playoff no hitter.

want him to get in... and I want him to be in a Phillies cap (I know, I know, but his two signature moments did happen in that hat, and that's where he really got to be in the national spotlight.)

Cole Hamels is here in the Phillies offices talking about him, and it's really heartbreaking to listen to.  DIdn't realize how close those guys all were.

Like FGM13 just said, we have yet to nail down what the new standards are for 21st-century starting pitchers. They're just not going to stack up with the guys who already got in. We know W-L is garbage, but 300 is still a magic number to any baseball fan, and it's difficult to get used to 200 being the new 300 (Doc finished with 203). But I agree with you that Halladay's body of work was among the very best during his career. As I alluded to, the one thing you could ding him for is putting up numbers on a bunch of Blue Jays teams that weren't exactly high-pressure environments, but that wasn't his fault, he made up for that with his Phillies teams, and you could find plenty of Hall of Fame pitchers who put up great numbers on lousy teams.

His most comparable players appear to be Zach Greinke on the aggregate side and Tim Hudson/Mike Mussina on the by-age side. That doesn't 100% feel like Hall of Fame to me by gut instinct, but I still have to believe he's in.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

he was a CG machine too, mostly because he was so efficient.  I remember being at the game and being amazed how he'd just get the ball back from the catcher and pretty much go right into his windup, almost like there was no signs given.

The CG thing shouldn't be undersold when voters look at his numbers.  Maybe he could have pitched longer had he only thrown 6 or 7 innings per game like most :censored:-ass- :censored: pitchers do.

It's also a shame that the then-cheap Phillies traded away Cliff Lee when they acquired Halladay, otherwise they could have had two seasons together before the offense got old, injured, and pretty much fell apart (like both of them eventually did.)

I'm a Leafs fan and remember losing Belak, but I can't remember a sports death affecting me this much.

The Doctor is out.

RIP

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

it was P ssy-ass-p ssy.  I wanted to modify p ssy with p ssy, just to be clear that they're not even regular p ssies, but even p ssier p ssies, but "p ssy p ssy" just doesn't work, so I just threw an ass in there because ass pretty much fits in the middle of anything.

I'll never forget the 2010 NDLS where he no-hit the Reds (his last pitch was against Brandon Phillips if I recall). While I was rooting for the Reds, I knew they weren't going to win the series and at that point, I honestly would've liked to see history made.

He had a lifelong dream to become a pilot, but only got his licence a few years ago because his MLB contract wouldn't allow it while he was still playing. Within only a few years, dead from crashing his plane. Very sad and unfortunate circumstances.

I don't necessarily disagree about him being a Hall-of-Famer, but having two no-hitters isn't exactly a sign of greatness (see Bill Stoneman, Carl Erskine, Bob Forsch...even Johnny Vander Meer).

I really didn't want to pick up any gear for this World Series because I didn't want to spend the cash, and my girl is a Dodgers fan, but you've just forced my hand with this one. I just went ahead and made a purchase, because this is absolutely AWESOME.

I really do think that you've kinda low-key turned into the very best designer on the boards. I'm not sure what you're doing career-wise back in Cincinnati, but you definitely need to stick with the graphic design stuff, because you've got a real talent for this stuff.

Just this year, Phillies have lost:

Jim Bunning (HOF)

Dallas Greene (1 of 2 Manager’s to win WS)

Darren Daulton (heart and leader of team for my childhood, and fan favorite of everyone)

Roy Halladay (everything had already been said)

Today is sad on the news and radio, as pretty much everything is all about him.

I appreciate the kind words and your buying one of the shirts. I am working a creative position in graphic design and video broadcasting for GE Aviation, which is surprisingly the best job I've ever had.

I'm capped at 40 hours a week so it also allows me time to actually pursue freelance opportunities. My goal is to be fully self employed within two years.

Roy Halladay: f*** thats horrible.

He threw a no-hitter against my team in our first playoff game in 15 years and I wasn't even mad at him. I should hate him, but he was so good all I could do was tip my cap. That was also his first career playoff start. Pretty amazing.
