2014 NBA Playoffs

I think the Hawks can take the Pacers in 7. They're confident. And they've won in Indiana this season, so I'm not worried about that. Hawks have the best ORTG of any East team against the Pacers. I like this matchup 1000 times better than vs. Miami.

Guys, Charlotte's in this thing. Probably for only a round, but still in it. This is a decision no one will hate you on, because does anyone have a grudge against the Bobcats?

Support us, plz.

Here's a wild thought:

If by some chance the starting lineups of every Bobcats opponent gets injured at the same time and forced to sit out the remainder of the series and Charlotte somehow wins the title, do they still go through with their Hornets rebrand?

This has been the worst NBA season I remember since I began watching in earnest back in 1998. I understand Durant made the leap in a big way, but otherwise, it's just been kind of a sludge the whole way through.

I'm rooting for the Spurs so Tim Duncan can finally retire. The man needs peace. The Heat are really good, but playing the equivalent of an extra season over the past three has to catch up with them at some point.

So the NBA really does need the Lakers to contend...

That's part of it. Another part is that I'm a Knicks fan, and they've been garbage. A third part is that I'm still nonplussed that even with a new commissioner, Seattle's still no closer to an NBA team than they were a year ago. There are a lot of factors that have biased me against NBA basketball this year.

However, playoffs change everything, so I'm probably back in :)

I sure hope those rumors of Brooklyn tanking to get the Raps are true. No other team, maybe other than Miami I'd love to see get pounded into the ground.

Raps in 5

No, they really don't.

If I heard correctly, this is the first time there's an NBA playoffs that don't have the Celtics, Knicks, and Lakers in the field.

I think that's the case if you throw in the Sixers as well.

Meh, I could care less who does well in these playoffs. If I had to choose teams to do well, it be the Spurs, Pacers and Thunder, in that particular order. But at the end of the day, the Miami Heat will be champions again because the NBA is hellbent on not living in a world without LeBron winning there's no competition this year.

Man has this been a down and boring year for basketball.

I'd tell you to just stop already, but that's never made much of a difference.

The strikeout gag? It's not funny when anyone does it.

The NBA is changing eras. As we transition from Stern to Silver, we're also saying goodbye to the post-Jordan era, and completely closing the book on the rocky times that followed Jordan's retirement. After Jordan left, there was the lockout, and the league (and ESPN, for sure) was BEGGING for a "New Jordan." First it was Iverson, then Kobe, then Grant Hill, then Jerry Stackhouse, then Paul Pierce, then Iverson again. Then Jordan came back (and I saw him a bunch of times!) but it was really sad and unnecessary.

I hated the Shaq/Kobe Lakers at the time, but in hindsight, they were a really fun team to watch, and probably the most complete team in the post-Jordan, pre-Heat timeframe. Remember when Kobe almost went to the Clippers? And then when Shaq went to the Heat and won an FU championship (and that was the last time Wade carried his team)? And remember all of the highly-touted flameouts, like random Jay Williamses? Michael Olowakandi? Kwame Brown? Darco? Marvin Williams? Remember when Ron Artest was so good, you considered wanting him for your team, even if he punched some suckers in the face? And his rap album?

I guess I'm feeling wistful, because if Duncan retires and if Kobe leaves, that closes the book on an era of rivalries and people trying to emulate Michael Jordan's competitiveness. Now the NBA is all Superfriends (except for everyone hating Blake Griffin) and some of the heart isn't there. I liked when Duncan willed past teams, and I really liked when Kobe was so good he could win games when he felt like it. Now it's guys palling up with other guys and it all feels like, I don't know, NFL Blitz, but in basketball. If Carmelo ends up on the Heat this summer, that might just be too much for me.

If Carmelo goes to the Heat then they will break the NBA for the next few years.

I've been a Knicks fan for years but I wouldn't be upset if Carmelo left the burning dumpster fire in MSG. I would just be a little disinterested in seeing a team that incredibly stacked in the league. Things should at least be a little competitive.

Actually, I believe that Charlotte won't go down that easily this time around. Heck, had the downfall in Indiana continued, I'd have them taking this round.

Here's a wild thought:

I had thought about that too.

NBA CHAMPIONS: Pacers, I guess? (I'm over the idea of the Thunder winning. If the Heat or Spurs win again, whatever.)
