Is "mutually parting ways" the new "fired"? Nobody other than the absolute best or most powerful decide to "part ways".

an involuntary resignation is not mutual.

Well I wonder if he was escorted out of the building with his cardboard box by security if it was "mutual". I have a feeling that nobody will ever be fired again. Every coaching change will be a "mutual parting of ways".

The PC Police have even taken away the joy of canning someone.

I agree it's stupid. You either resign or get fired. If you were planning on leaving at the same time they were planning to fire you, well, that's quite the coincidence.

Though now that I think about it, Harbaugh and the Niners' "mutual agreement" seems believable. It was clear that the Niners brass was growing tired of him, and he seems like he really wanted to go to Michigan.

Fox's case on the other hand, I don't buy for a second.

Rex Ryan was just fired. I'm assuming the other coaches were too; I doubt the Bears cared at all about Marc Trestman's Canadian feelings.

The Eagles and their director of pro personnell (or whatever his title was) "mutually parted ways", but he was heard screaming and cursing and was walked to his car by security.

It could look good for a team when interviewing potential coaches for them to say "hey, we haven't fired a coach in 30 years!" Of course they'd leave out the fact that they and 12 coaches decided to mutually part ways over the years.

Wonder if John Fox has some health issues again? He did have some heart issues last season that had him miss a game or two.

I thought so too, but I've also read the entire staff has been fired.

I'm not terribly disappointed. I never really liked Fox as a head coach and I really wouldn't want Del Rio or Adam Gase to replace him.

If John Fox goes to the Bears and dies, it wouldn't be the first time this team has happened to the Bears, sadly.

Bears won't hire a guy on his second spin, let alone his third. Shanahan practically begged for an interview and they wouldn't give him one. They didn't want Rex Ryan, either.

I think the Bears not having hired an experienced coach thus far is a mixed bag. Sometimes good coaches leave and go elsewhere, but most of the time they leave because they were fired. Mike Shanahan had done nothing in the last 15 seasons to show that he's a good choice to take over a franchise at age 62. Five playoff appearances and one win since John Elway retired. I don't want Gary Kubiak, Jack Del Rio or any other retreads who are hopeful they learned from failure the first time around.

I think Ryan is a hell of a coach and would have loved his hire, but we both know that you would have derided the hire by saying it was short-sighted and an attempt to appeal the "meatball" fans who fondle themselves over hard-nosed defense.

Trib reports Bears and Fox have mutual interest. I would personally love the hire but inevitably all the dreary bitter souls that compose our fandom will find any reason to decry it with their typical sour faced boredom.

Yeah it sucks when people do absolutely nothing but complain about things.

Sarcasm or not, it is a legit issue. I complain a lot, but you'd be surprised at how I of all people want to be excited about the damn Bears. Yet I know many Bears fans, including many relatives, that have given up and packaged their Bears and Cubs feelings together into this defeatist, gloomy mindset. It's like why even feign interest when you clearly think so little of them?

One family member of mine wouldn't care if the team went undefeated for a decade. He's not going to buy into things until the McCaskeys sell the team. That's unrealistic. If that's your condition, you may want to find another team.

I like Rex Ryan, but I'm a little worried because it seems like we're set up for the same thing that didn't work during his Jets tenure: no QB, but a good defense. He still made it pretty fat into the playoffs; I'll take that. At least the press conferences will be fun. His OC choice will be very important.

That's cold :)
Lambeau Field cold?

Fox wanted greater control over roster construction. Elway wouldn't give it to him.

Rapsheet says that Bowles will reschedule 2nd interviews to meet up with the Jets first before going off to Atlanta. I wouldn't have expected him to take the Jets job, but...

Yes. I have a friend who became a Maple Leafs fan in the '90s because he was pissed at Hawks ownership. He stuck to his guns in 2010 and never returned to the Hawks because they abandoned him. That's honestly at least 5% of life-long White Sox fans. People still blame Reinsdorf for the players striking and blame him for trading off a few players in 1997 when 3.5 games back of the powerhouse Indians (the acquired players helped win a division three years later). I mean, I understand disliking ownership or disliking every move, but to completely write off the team and say you won't follow it at all until the owners sell is just silly. It's sports. Sports are supposed to be fun, and you're depriving nobody but yourself.

Agreed. I hate sports sometimes, but it's all about perspective. It can be fun if you let it be.
