2015 NFL Offseason

This isn't about doing an instant turnaround. This is about bringing a team back to semi-respectability from the depths of hell. The one NFL game I substantially watched this year was the one at the end against the Vikings and it was like watching mid-major football. If Fox can get them back to their customary 7-8-9 wins after the dumpster fire Emery and Trestman left him, I'll consider that a great success. Schedule looks pretty rough, though.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Family Issues with the Benson family and the Saints.

Attorneys for family members of Tom Benson who were shut out of a proposed, altered succession plan for the Saints and Pelicans owner filed a civil petition Thursday afternoon seeking to have Benson declared mentally incapacitated and thus unable to make such a decision on his own.

The petition, filed in Orleans Parish Civil District Court and allotted to Judge Kern Reese, argues that the 87-year-old Benson should be examined by an independent, geriatric psychiatrist specializing in determining mental capacity and that medical records should be produced to help a judge make a decision on the matter.

“Sadly, the Benson family was forced to take this action in the best interests of Tom Benson and his legacy, the customers of the Benson family automobile dealerships, the employees of all the family enterprises, and the multitude of Pelicans and Saints fans,” said lawyer Randy Smith, who is representing Tom Benson’s now-estranged relatives.

The petition suggests Tom Benson’s adopted daughter, Renee, should be her father’s appointed guardian as it relates to his business interests because she is his next of kin. Renee is the mother of Rita LeBlanc — who had been listed as the Saints’ and Pelicans’ co-owner and vice chairwoman of the board until Wednesday — and Ryan LeBlanc.

Ryan LeBlanc lately has mostly been involved in car dealerships that Tom Benson also owns. Renee Benson has been involved in various aspects of her billionaire father’s business empire.

Benson on Wednesday revealed that he wanted his third wife, Gayle whom he married in 2004, to take control of his sports properties upon his death, setting the stage for a battle over the professional sports teams between Gayle and his daughter, granddaughter and son.

Any change in Benson’s succession plan for the Saints would require approval from 24 of the 32 NFL owners, a league spokesman told The New Orleans Advocate

Kudos to Josh Gordon for failing yet another drug test. This guy is the American Dream.

Also apparently Manziel exhibited a commitment to the nightlife last year and was "drunk of his ass" the morning of the season finale according to team security. Browns gonna Brown I guess.

I don't understand this. Gordon failed a test for alcohol because of a DUI. I'm not saying he's a victim here, but the NFL is so terribly dumb. The last things these guys should be tested for is marijuana, painkillers, and alcohol, or any combination of those three.

Nathaniel Hackett is the Jaguars' QB coach now; presumably he took the job so that he can remind Doug Marrone every single day: "Hey, remember when we were head coach and OC for a team in the playoff hunt?"

Yeah but now they will have an awful coach.

Maybe. Who knows? At one point you could've said the Patriots had hired a horrible coach in Belicheck, or the Seahawks had hired a horrible NFL head coach in Pete Carroll. It's a league full of retread coaches. I think the Broncos will struggle because I've never thought too highly of Osweiler as Peyton's successor, but they will still have enough talent on the team to not be too terrible without Peyton.
