I have a bad feeling that they'll pay another $25 million for next year, even though they don't have any money, just because the crowds were semi-decent the last few nights and the team will probably make the playoffs. They'll say "we can't give up now when we're this close" and run up another bill. The NHL has lost so much money on this thing already and they haven't given up. Not sure why they would now. They did say "never say never" about running the team a fourth year.Has a league ever owned a team for four seasons? I think the Expos/Nationals were league-owned from 2003 to the beginning/middle of 2006. That comes close. The difference there is that the league's job was to make the Expos bad so they could move them easily, but then they couldn't find an owner in Washington once they got there. The NHL's job has been to make the Coyotes better so they could be sold locally. They'll never pass another 25 million. Hell at this point I'd wager they'd take back the 25 they already blew if they could. The NHL is playing them and it's becoming clear to everyone including them that the Coyotes leaving is a when not if proposition at this point. Given everything that the clown college has provided us with, it's like I'm bracing for one final parting f-u to us in the form of a fourth bailout. I'm also fearing that some of the league's power brokers will get cold feet about the American appearance of not only retreating to Canada in consecutive years but going to a city where people really don't speak much English. The Canadiens are just as English as they are French, and the Senators pay the merest of lip service to Gatineau. This would be as French as it gets. Some owners may be against the perception, albeit misplaced, of a 29-team league plus that weird French team in an otherwise English league. This is a stupid fear, since francophones constitute some of the sport's most reliable consumers, and Quebecor is primed to exploit this fact across multiple platforms, but as widely embraced as the Nordiques will be among the fans who count, I have to acknowledge that there's a real risk they have zero marketing potential beyond the province, and what should be celebrated as an important part of North America will be disregarded as foreign and misplaced. I'd like to think this shouldn't be a problem, though. It's not like they've never been in Quebec City before. In fact, since 1948, Maricopa hasn't voted for a Democrat.Glednale's congressional representative is Republican Trent Franks. Franks was reelected with nearly 65% of the vote in 2010.In the state congress, a Republican (Linda Gray) represents Glendale.It's safe to say this is a conservative area of a conservative state.
