Cujo
Bruce Bochy is allowing MadBum to rake for himself in Oakland tomorrow, thus a team waives their DH privilege for the first time since '76. Love it!

Love it! I was about to ask, but I guess you already answered it - a team can waive their DH batter for their pitcher? I'd have to assume that includes bullpen pitchers. @2001mark

Without their consistently good defense from guys like Pence, Panik, and Duffy, things fall apart. I am not freaking out, but merely pointing out a sadly overlooked facet of the Giants' recent success and how it's absence has really made the difference in down years (i.e. whatever the crap happened in 2011, the Pagan-less months of 2014, and much of 2015). I'm sure the Giants can right the ship with the right moves at the deadline and as guys get back into the lineup, but I hope stretches like these can finally show the baseball public that the Giants' strength isn't the rotation so much as it is their defense. "Defense wins championships" applies to baseball far more than people think. Heck, it's a big reason why I defend Bill Mazeroski's place in the HOF. Yup. I've been saying this for a few years now. Every title they've won has more to do with them playing stellar defense than any other factor. It's so terribly overlooked in all their success. OaklandIsBack
Brutal 3rd inning for Mac Williamson last night. Plows into Pena on a pop up, the batter advances all the way to 3rd, then later in the inning Jed Lowrie hits a drive to right that goes in and out of Williamson's glove for a two run homer. SF's defense was rough last night And Bumgarner is hitting for himself today, what a slap in the face to the bench players

OnWis97
The Twins went without the DH in, I believe, Tampa a few years ago. Gardy messed up the lineup card. Things like this both before and during the game have vacated the use of the DH a few times over the years. But it's amazing that this is the first time a team has ever waived it by choice. I guess it makes sense since 1) few pitchers can hit well and 2) even with a decent hitting starter, the fear is that a short outing leaves that spot to bullpen hitters. Anyway as a rare DH hater / AL team fan, I love it. Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse." Kramerica Industries
5/18/2009 Quote Sunday's game would have been eventful enough, the Rays rallying for a 7-5 victory for their second three-game winning streak. But that was after the manager screwed up the lineup card and the Rays had to play without the DH, the first AL team to do so in more than 30 years, forcing major-league RBI leader Evan Longoria to the bench and pitcher Andy Sonnanstine into the No. 3 spot in his place. --- And to think it all started when Rays manager Joe Maddon signed and submitted a lineup card that had Longoria, who was supposed to DH, and Ben Zobrist playing third. The Indians waited until Zobrist played the field in the top of the first and brought it to umpires' attention, who huddled for more than 10 minutes,. Because Zobrist was in the lineup, Longoria couldn't be. And the Rays would be the first AL team, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, to start a game without a DH since Sept. 23, 1976, when pitcher Ken Brett batted eighth for the White Sox. --- "I was just laughing," said Longoria, who entered the game in the sixth in a double switch, another Tropicana Field first. That last part was patently illegal, btw. Longoria wasn't eligible to appear in the game after the lineup snafu.

cmm
They had to take that game off the Citi Field out-of-town scoreboard because they can only fit 19 runs. Also, I saw Tank at the game! Worlds were colliding.

Cujo
A story currently blowing up over social media... Glorified foul ball chaser Zack Hample snuck his way into the DOD-only Fort Bragg game and showed off some of the 11 balls that he snagged. The guy is a doucher and is deservedly taking a massive amount of heat for this. Even the Marlins Man called out this sack of sh1t. However, the DOD or MLB employee that sold/gave the private ticket to Hample is just as much to blame. Because this story has gotten so out-of-hand, will likely will be looking for new employment soon.
FiddySicks
Apparently a buddy of his who won two tickets took him as a guest? I honestly don't see what the big deal is. It seems silly that he really wanted to go to that game (it was Braves Marlins, for crying out loud), but the "outrage" kinda comes across as just as silly, if you ask me. JayJaxon
A buddy of his did not get the tickets. He is lying about that. It was discovered he was on Tinder looking to pay $1,000 for a ticket. There is no way in blue hell that guy got into the game by any legitimate means.
Wings
I know this has been around since last year but in honor of the Cleveland Indians winning streak ending a few days ago I give you this: It's god awful and funny at the same time but I love it. Yeah, I've heard both versions, and even if he did pay a grand or more for a ticket, the anger seems a bit misplaced. So some soldier got himself a few weeks pay and the dude got to see a ballgame. I still don't see what all the fuss is about. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
