I'm glad you said this because I didn't want to be the guy to point out that the Indians finished 28th in attendance this season.

Someone in Chicago with a ticket to this game will miss the game tonight because they went too hard in the paint at the bars today. I probably won't be able to prove it, but I guarantee it will happen to someone.

At this point, I think the real "game" is making it to dinner time. :P

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

Right, because the Indians have been packing in 40,000 a game since 1948. Newsflash, genius, people get excited when their team makes the World Series. Period. Same thing happened here in 1995 or in Arlington, Texas in 2010-11 or in Detroit in both '84 and '06. I could go on, but I think you get the point. Add in the fact that it's the first time this particular team has been to the World Series since 1948 and of course people are coming out of the woodwork. There's nothing new going on here.

You did Miami

'Cause you got there for free

But somehow you missed the plane.

You did too much E

Met somebody

And spent the night...

I'll just leave it off there.

I'm sure this always happens.  I'm sure there's at least two or three pessimistic fans who sell their tickets or left early and end up being the tail lights in the Kirk Gibson highlight.  I'm sure there's at least a half a dozen who missed all the historic moments because of getting drunk and/or kicked out, or some other reason.

I think my favorite factoid about how long it's been since the Cubs were in the World Series is that tonight will be the first ever televised World Series match at Wrigley Field

My favorite is still ESPN's list that went viral of things that didn't exist when the last World Series game was played at Wrigley.

Watching the pregame.  Fans in the background heckling A-Rod.  I'm supremely disappointed that I have to count on Cubs fans to give him the reception he should have received from my fellow fans when he got back from the suspension.

On the subject of my hopes for the future of the series, I hope the home team wins, so either the Cubs sweep the three games in Wrigley, or the Indians snipe one or two and close out at the Jake.  If I had to pick, I'd pick the Cubs just because it would end the series in October and we won't continue the watering down of 2001.  Also, it would be a great "aura and mystique" type story for it to happen on Devil's night or past midnight under the new moon.

Just gotta win one of these three at Wrigley.

Yup. Win one and bring the series back to Cleveland. I'll happily take my chances from there.

EDIT: I'll just add that if you aren't at least a little...goose bumpy....I guess...over seeing a World Series game finally being played at Wrigley, you have no soul. This is awesome.

Are the Cubs coming out to "Going the Distance"?  I would think Philly would have a lockdown on the entire Rocky soundtrack, although I suppose it fits well here.  Is this a usual thing, or just for this moment?

Then again, I still can't believe the Phillies don't play "The Final Bell" when they win.  I know "Ring My Bell" is light, and fun, and a decent pun, but "The Final Bell" has roots in the city's culture, has such great energy, and is just one of the most triumphant songs ever.

More or less, but I think I sort of get why they might feel that way. In their minds, if the Cubs win a World Series, they become plain old regular fans. I'd much rather be a plain old regular fan with a couple World Series wins, but that's just me. B)

Totally.  I understand completely.  >_>;

In all honesty, though, the Cubs do have more than that.  For all these years that the team's been bad, they've always banked on the one thing they had that elevated them, even in the bad times: Wrigley.  Even if they become just another mediocre team, or go back to the cellar, they can count on that.

Actually, I kinda get that. The feeling of never winning a title is something really powerful. Then when you finally win one, then what? I know a lot of Giants fans who are just different fans now that the Giants have won. They still love the team, but they don't live and die as much with every win and loss. It brings a certain sense of relaxation to a fan, and honestly, in some ways it kinda magnifies how empty of a feeeling watching pro sports is. It's an accomplishment you really want, but deep down, it's not really YOUR accomplishment. That is BY FAR the strangest feeling of seeing your team win a title.

I was a kid when first seeing it, and the sweeps just felt like pregone conclusions.  2001 made me really appreciate it, and the next few years certainly helped, let alone nearly a decade.  Of course, saying something like that probably pisses people off, but the New Dynasty happening when your first game is 1995 and you're barely aware of the sport before that kinda screws up your perception.  Unlike the spoiled entitlement of a lot of my contemporaries, though, the loss made me appreciate, and while I consider falling short a letdown, I'm still appreciative of anything I get.

2009 did kind of feel weird, but I was in a weird position.  Game 6 was a Wednesday night.  I had a public speaking engagement the next night that I was woefully unprepared for, but also had tickets to Game 7.  I was already planning to cut up some toilet paper rolls for the night, so it was a weird experience kinda hoping they didn't win at that moment, and being kinda stressed afterwards because I had to care for my responsibilities now.

In my experience, what I've come to realize is that it's not really winning the championship itself that brings about the biggest exclamation; it's the key moments that lead up to the championship that fill that role. Kind of an ends-justify-the-means sort of deal. I was fortunate in 2009 as a Yankee fan, and you know what my favorite moment from that entire postseason (or, at least, World Series) was? Not the final out of Game 6. Routine groundball to second in a 4-run game? It would be forgettable if it wasn't the final out. My favorite moment was ARod driving in the winning run of Game 4 with two outs in the top of the 9th in a 4-4 game. That was the top thrilling moment of them all. That's what I remember back on when thinking about that series.

The problem, of course, is that you only know what the final outcome was once the final outcome is reached. And that knowledge, in retrospect, provides appropriate coloring to all the moments that led up to it.

I honestly do barely remember that last game, save for the last inning.  I go back and watch highlights, but it doesn't feel like I ever watched it live.  I remember Teixera's walkoff against the Twins.  I remember Damon stealing two.  I remember my friend responding to seeing Sabathia against the Angels by shouting that they had a bear pitching, and after the game was over her texted me "That bear is majestic."  I remember A-Rod finally getting out of his slump, before we all knew he was on the juice and giving those who would want to denigrate the accomplishment plenty of ammo to do so.

Bill Murray just sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in the voice of Daffy Duck. Everything is normal.

That was amazing. It just made social media.

However, he made a mistake because that's actually Sylvester the Cat, not Daffy Duck.
