(You can sort of say he was forced into retirement, but reports were out there that this decision had been stewing for a while; quite possibly, years.) Im pretty much the ultimate the NFL, get paid guy, and I feel all players should retire whenever the hell they want to. Even with that, I can’t say the timing of this is good. If he’s really that hurt, which I’m sure he is, then he probably doesn’t have much choice. But to retire two weeks before the start of the season because you’re not into it anymore? He’s going to take an absolute truckload of for that. Frankly, he probably should. I have a hard time holding it against people who are mad about this simply for how awful the timing is. This pretty much sums up something I’ve always felt. The Colts have ALWAYS been an abysmally run organization. I think the Manning years sort of masked people a bit from just how bad Irsay and his people are at this. Even with Peyton, they really did underachieve by only winning one title. Before Peyton, they had issues with Marshall Faulk and his contract, and he turned around to be one of the best running backs ever for the Rams while the Colts were trash. Luck just up and retiring like this so close to the season makes me feel that there had to be some very serious issues with the Colts front office. I don’t find that to be surprising at all, because they never were able to build anything around him. Sort of how they always seemed to struggle with building a championship winning organization around Manning. Luck probably just got sick of it and decided that it’s worth the garbage he’ll have to take from fans and teammates to not risk his health and well-being any longer. At least he didn't retire with 1 week before the start of the season, or even during the middle of the season. They still have a good 2 weeks to prepare without him now. No matter how you spin it, all fingers should be pointed at Irsay & Grigson. They killed his Career, honestly before it even really started. Need I remind you that Vontae Davis retired in the middle a game last year. He's given them 2 weeks to prepare without him. You can blame fans for getting overly emotional about that if you’d like. But, in this one particular instance? I’m having a hard time really being outraged about that. It’ll all settle down eventually, but you sort of have to give people a bit of time to process this one. On topic, it's a shame that we never got to see what a full career of a healthy Andrew Luck would have been, but after all the injuries (and I'm sure concussions) I can't blame the guy at all for shutting it down. He's made plenty of money. Get out while you still know your own name. I really like Jacoby Brissett. I think the Colts will be OK with him at QB. They won't be as good without Andrew Luck as they would have been with him, but I think they have a pretty capable QB in Brissett who is ready to take the reins.
