AstroCree
Going from black jerseys to the white jerseys w/ drop shadows really make this feel like the 2000s all over again.

GhostOfNormMacdonald
I feel like a New York team should be allowed to do this on the 20th anniversary. It's 1 game, it's not anything egregious. If it turned into an everyday thing I'd be against it obviously, but today is just different, ya know? Gothamite
If it was only the 20th anniversary, maybe. It would still be gross, but less egregious somehow. The ongoing annual fetishism is just out of hand. Bad enough when they do it in Topeka, but especially distasteful here. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. Beyond the politics, I think the most forgotten people in the Sept 11th attacks are the flight crews. They were the ones that were directy affected. Given the crap flight crews have been getting these days about wearing masks on planes by a bunch of Karens, maybe it's time we give them far more respect. I saw, I came, I left. And you’re absolutely right about that - flight crews deserve to be mentioned every time that cops or firefighters are. But I’ve found that the various 9/11 commemorations have little to do with “respect” for anyone. Which is why I find them so very distasteful. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! I am super surprised there isn’t a merchandise line built around the 20th anniversary. They rarely miss an opportunity to make a buck on a jersey and hat commemorating some event or cause. Ark
The 2001 MLB season in particular will forever be tied to 9/11. This isn't close to the same level as camo jerseys.
Digby
Seems the Red Sox are wearing their Boston DPW softball team yellow marathon jerseys again for this weekend’s series. The BAA Half-Marathon is this weekend so maybe that’s the “reasoning”. Still the UCLA hat, not the mystery stencil B hat that popped up on Fanatics. I agree with everything you’ve said in spirit, but I still find myself wanting to give the Mets a bit of a pass on this one. The Mets have always seemed to have more of a blue collar connection to the city than at least the Yankees do, and one of the things that everyone wants to remember is the service and sacrifice that those city service workers made during that day. Hell, even their closer/setup guy and team captain during the attacks was the son of a sanitation worker. I just find it hard to fault the Mets, of all teams, for hardening back to that. Even if that was true (and I’m not sure at all that it is) it somehow makes it all the worse. If they really were the blue-collar team, exploiting the death of blue-collar workers would be ten times as gross. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. AstroCree
I used to be fine when they wore the regular First Responder hats but when MLB decided to throw the Mets logo on the side and profit off it, then it became an issue for me. Wear that at home, and the powder blue throwback on the road, and you’d have the basis of a unique and good-looking set. (The Twins can drop the other jerseys in the rotation and try again, while they’re at it. Maybe keep the gray road jersey and add a better navy alt, but that’s about it). Correct, but what I was wondering was if the patches on the caps will be Wild Card and Division Series specific, thus creating the delay. They've just been generic "postseason" patches in the past.
