So… since it made season two, y’all think it’s about time to add these logos to the wiki?

Agreed. And also to upgrade the USFL to “active” status from “defunct “ on the main site since the league has the rights to the original league’s history and IP now.

Yeah I saw on their Twitter that they are claiming old awards, championships, scores, and records. Does the New USFL officially have the rights to the old league or can the old league just not do anything about it? Is it legally all one continuous thing or is there just nothing stopping the new league from “claiming” the old history?

Yes, Fox Sports settled the lawsuit with the original USFL team owners in August, allowing the new iteration of the league to carry forward its history.

That's why we're now seeing social media posts, like the one posted earlier in this thread, comparing last season's results to those of the initial USFL. Hopefully the broadcasts this weekend do a better job of highlighting the league's past.

Clock rules probably look to meet the pace of the XFL.

The QB rule is interesting but will it come into play?

The new KO rules are a head scratcher.

I like the fumble change.

Yeah, the kickoff rules are meant to get more returns, but when you're already at 80%, do you really need to try for 90%? I think the plan is to tire out the kicking team so there's more chances at a touchdown on the kickoffs. Forcing the gunners on punt returns to stay inside the numbers will do that as well, at least in theory. I think if the 3rd string QB comes into play in the first half, the team should be able to bring in QB1 or QB2 after the half. I guess we'll see that addressed once a team gets all three quarterbacks knocked out.

Liberty Bowl is extremely vacant for the Showboats' inaugural game, and Memphis' uniforms appear to not so much have been designed as just simply occurred. Something you'd get out of create-a-team in a PS1 game.

On the bright side, the end zone walls have advertising, so someone in this operation is at least working to bring money in besides the Fox checks.

Only sold tickets for one half of the stadium.  According to the ticket sales sites pregame, only a few dozen tickets were left available. And this crowd shot shows the home side pretty well full.

Memphis is one of only two USFL teams whose games are on local radio. The station is WKIM 98.9. The other team with a radio deal is Michigan, on Detroit's WJR 760. (By contrast, no XFL teams have local radio.)

I don't have cable, and I am certainly not going to pay for any Fox Sports app.  So radio is how I followed today's Memphis - Philadelphia game.

I do have a Peacock subscription; and at least one USFL game is on there each week, including one of tomorrow's games.

According to Curt Menefee during the Stallions-Generals broadcast, the Showboats-Stars game drew 30k. Yet, as you see in this video, half the stadium is empty (lower half even tarped off), and the other half wasn't completely full. Daryl Johnston also said they won't be releasing attendance figures.🤦‍♂️

Liberty Bowl capacity is 58k. Given that it appears there was freebies given out and tickets were only $10 and people were trying to flip them for many times over face value on the resale market, there's a good chance not every ticket was used at the game.

That's not unusual for ANY sport. If a ticket is issued, it is counted. They can't sell it or give it out again. So, that's how attendance is counted. We haven't gotten turnstile counts for decades from any league.

I know how stadium attendances are counted. I  worked in a minor league stadium (and MLB as well). I actually had to get the actual attendance for the game every night.

The AAF would've called it a sellout. They were awful about exaggerating attendance.  Ahhh... I do miss the AAF.

So far, while I don't like the hub city structure they use and will struggle to really get into games played in empty stadiums, the USFL feels like a step-up from the XFL to me.  The presentation,  at least.  But then, anything would be an upgrade over ESPN's XFL coverage with their second- tier CFB commentators and constant talk about spreads and over/unders.

The drones flying everywhere still bug me. Birmingham not having end zone seats available feels like the plan is to force fans to the sidelines to make the stadium look fuller. I think for opening weekend they'll look pretty good. But once the numbers drop like they will once teams start losing games and the novelty wears off, will we see smaller numbers than the XFL stadiums, save for Vegas?

Will those same sponsors still be at every stadium or specific to each one?

Michigan is wearing a Rocket Mortgage ad patch. Are the rest of the league going to be doing that?

Rocket Mortgage is by Quicken Loans which is owned by Dan Gilbert who owns the Cavs and the  Monsters in Cleveland. He's also part of the group trying to bring an MLS team to Detroit. He also owns the company that owns one of the casinos in Detroit and also the one in Cleveland.

Rocket Mortgage is based in Detroit so sponsoring the Michigan Panthers makes sense. I doubt they'll sponsor every team.

The XFL broadcasts have felt so far behind the first three USFL broadcasts. Though the USFL is relying far more on TV revenue and selling tickets for nothing. XFL meanwhile has very high priced tickets and has a home venue for every team and caters to the GameDay experience.

When they announced the Detroit hub with the Panthers and Stars, the USFL mentioned Gilbert and Pistons owner Tom Gores as the people responsible for bringing the USFL back to Detroit.

$25-$50 isn't what I'd call high priced, but they are significantly higher than the USFL, who's cheapest tickets are $10. I believe the most expensive season tickets for a team is $190/ticket in the USFL, and mine were $375 for my two regular season tickets in the end zone for the Brahmas. Advertising needs to be bumped up for the XFL in the future. The USFL got more ad time on WWE broadcasts than the XFL did on anything other than ESPN. I got a lot of email traffic, but that was likely only because I bought XFL gear.
