2022 International Soccer

Mexico women flopped out of the Concacaf Women's Championships. They took the USA to the 89th minute, but three straight losses knocks them out of the World Cup and Olympics.

England women destroy Norway 8-0. The Euros have been either really competitive low scoring games or a blowout. France, Germany, Norway and England all had at least a 3 goal victory so far.

England women have matched the men by reaching the Euro 2022 final. Likely playing Germany for the title, who beat them 6-2 the last time they were there. I don't see that happening this time though.

The last time England won a major international tournament was before the women's national team was established!

I didn't watch the USMNT-Japan World Cup warm-up match, but have read that the USMNT performance was ugly. Definitely not what you want to hear going into the World Cup.

Everyone else in the group except for Iran lost, so I'm not as broken up as I probably should be. Can coaches stop trying to play out of the back now?

Another massively uninspiring performance from the USMNT. It’s gotten to the point that it doesn’t matter who Berhalter plays at this point, the result is the same. Just poor.

All of these really talented players, both from Europe and the MLS, simply cannot produce in this system. These players are in-form and producing for their clubs too. They seem unsure, unconfident and play with zero cohesion. He is coaching this team like it’s a club, instead of the national team. Trying to force players to fit into his system, rather than creating a system to fit his players.

For the record, I know the results don’t matter in these friendlies, but how we played is what has me so concerned. It’s the same it has been all qualifying cycle and post WC-qualifiers.

I also think we need to forget counting on Gio Reyna if he can't walk down the street without getting hurt. I think goalie still is a weakness no matter who's in between the pipes.

Sounds like they pulled Gio as a precaution since the World Cup is so close. But I’m also concerned about his injury proneness. Hopefully it’s something he can overcome.

I think Turner has earned the right to start the World Cup at keeper, he’s our best pure shot stopper, but Gregg loves his favorites and so long as Steffan is in game-shape he’ll get the nod. I’m not thrilled about either for sure.

I miss prime Tim Howard.

The goalie situation is pretty rough right now, but one bright side is that other Americans are starting to get some looks. One potential candidate that keeps popping up is Maccabi Haifa GK Josh Cohen, who’s quickly turning into one of the very best players in the Israeli Premier League. I would be absolutely over the moon if this were to happen, as I’ve known Josh for the last five years and consider him a good friend. Even if he ultimately never does get that look, it’s great to see his name pop up in the conversation.

FIFA is kicking back bids for next year's Women's World Cup broadcasts because they feel they are too low. I guess it's good to see this from them, but I wonder how much of the money is intended to go to the teams attending the tournament?

https://talksport.com/football/1225394/england-opponents-iran-kicked-out-world-cup-uae-italy-as-fifa-qatar/

So Italy and Ukraine are both requesting that Iran be thrown out of the World Cup and replaced by either of their teams. Ukraine laid out the fact that Iran is allegedly supplying weapons to Russia, Italy is leaning on the protests by women in Iran. Technically speaking, per FIFA rules three European teams cannot play in the same group so if FIFA threw out Iran, an AFC team should replace them and the next highest is United Arab Emirates.

"Should Iran’s ban be granted then England would be given new World Cup opponents in Group B to join USA and Wales.

It is unclear as of yet who that would be, but the most likely nation to be rewarded with tournament entry would be the UAE.

The UAE were the Asian nation that went furthest in World Cup qualification without reaching Qatar having lost to Australia 2-1 in a play-off semi-final in June.

The Socceroos then went onto beat South Americans Peru on penalties in the final to book their spot in the FIFA showpiece event".

USMNT roster:

Biggest surprises:

- No Zack Steffen

- No John Brooks (which isn't really a surprise)

- Yes Jordan Morris

I'm also excited to see Yedlin and Zimmerman there.

The US isn't going to win, but this looks like a strong roster nonetheless. Tentatively excited.

I'm concerned about the goalscoring abilities. Pulisic (52 appearances [A]/21 goals [G]), Morris (49A/11G), McKennie (37A/9G), Ferreira (15A/7G), and Aaronson (24A/6G), doesn't seem intimidating. The USMNT might not have enough firepower for the World Cup.
