Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the original Seahawks uniform,  (Cue the crying, "wwaaahhhh, that team was even worse!)

As I stated earlier, I think the helmet logo reappearing on the sleeve is a clever reuse of the stripe, but ultimately kinda clunky and redundant, like every time the helmet logo repeats on the jersey. The slightly thinner pants stripe here are a little less visually jarring, and match up with the road jersey sleeves.  And I'm always a sucker for matching sleeve stripes/sock stripes on home uniforms. Plus a gray mask to annoy grumpy posters for the win.  And teams can always throwback to the first uniforms just because they are first uniforms.

That was my introduction to the Seahawks. They were terrible, but they were my team.

I've long felt that this was a criminally under appreciated idea even though I couldn't tell you whether I thought it was an improvement over the royal and silver.

I only had three problems with the Seahawks' uniforms of that era.

  1. The sleeve caps being a different color from the rest of jersey. Seemed unnecessary.
  2. The inclusion of the helmet logo on the sleeves. If an alternate logo was created for this set in it's place it would have looked better off to me.
  3. The alternate versions they ended up unveiling. Mainly the navy blue pants. The jerseys might have been better off had the numbers been slate blue instead white.

That Seahawks steel blue is underrated imo.

That one was a miss for me, though the switch to the Neon Green and it’s minimal use was done nicely, specifically on the pant stripe.  That is exactly the kind of stripe the Panthers need to use to update their helmets, and possibly pants, except with Process Blue as the thin stripe.

The 2000s set needed more neon green. Should have been on the logo the way the kelly green was on the old one, should have been part of a double outline on the numbers. The alternate jerseys were a bit much, but there needed to be a little more than there was.

If I'm not mistaken, the sleeve logo was about the same size, if not smaller, than the Reebok logo. A shame they shouldn't commit to wraparounds. It did look inconsequential just sitting there like that. But still, the set as a whole was a massive improvement over the moribund set they had before.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you make the observation that most royal/kelly teams (outside of the modern Canucks) looked moribund and lost a lot? Whalers when they were green-heavy, the latter half of the pre-Cuban Mavs, the '90s Seahawks, etc.?

The Packers Pro Shop twitter account is teasing a “BIG announcement” for tomorrow. The Packers have also been completely silent in regards to posting media day style pictures of players aside from the Rookie Premier. I wonder if they’re making the switch to the new Nike template.

Yes. Royal blue and kelly green is associated in my mind with teams going nowhere fast. You can throw the pre-rebrand Timberwolves on there too. Same with black, metallic gold, and possibly a muted or tertiary color (Capitals, Stars, Wizards, Jaguars, Penguins, few others).

The late spring/early summer of 1976, I was 11 (yes, I’m f’n old, allright?) and my dad took me and my brother on a road trip from Columbus to Canton, OH. To the pro Football Hall of Fame. We got there about lunchtime, so before going in we stopped at a local McDonalds to eat. Being in the neighborhood of the HOF, it had an NFL theme, which included all the teams’ old fashioned felt pennants. Being a football obsessed little nerd, I was well familiar with all 26 teams, but hanging there on the wall were two extra pennants, which was the first time I even had a hint that teams were being added, or even that teams could be added.  The Buccaneers’ one seemed cool, but the Seahawk one was enthralling to me… couldn’t stop looking at it.

First off, they had THREE colors in addition to white, which seemed daring at the time, and two of those colors were blue and green, which felt vaguely illegal. And that dour looking bird, which turned into a horizontal stripe?  I was just staring at it, slack jawed. Having picked out the Vikings as a favorite team and already suffered thru three painful Superbowl losses, it was too late for me to jump to another team, but right then I knew I has a second favorite, just based on the colors and helmet logo. I know now that the California Golden Seals were wearing those colors in the late 60’s and the Vancouver Canucks in the early 70’s (I think the Hartford Whalers switched to blue and green about the same time as the Seahawks started) but I was unfamiliar with any of those teams at the time, so in my mind the Seahawks’ first color scheme was unique, original, and amazing. I still see it that way. Anytime I see a team in those colors, I immediately feel a connection to that team.  When the Seahawks switched to that frankly terrible dull slate blue and nasty slime green, I was sorely disappointed. When they used that ugly uniform to usher in the monochrome era to the NFL, I turned on them… at that point they were more or less dead to me. And when the dropped the (at least unique) dull slate blue for the band-wagon navy blue, kept the nasty green and the dopey monochrome, not to mention added on an annoying coach, d-bag QB, and a pack of total jackasses on defense, I went to full on hating them.  Sometimes its hard for me to even remember this is the same team with that once had the fabulous color scheme and amazing helmet. So, yeah, I’m kind of happy to see this throwback.

TLDR – Royal blue and Kelly green are quite possibly the greatest color scheme in sports, and all combinations of dull slate blue, average navy blue, and baby puke green suck.

Oh… IMO, as usual.

Other than us nerds here, fans don't know what a template is. No chance this is what is being hinted at.

Isn't the annual shareholders meeting tomorrow? Maybe they'll publicize the returning season ticket holder merchandise.

It's where I sit.

Completely anecdotal, but after reading this, it suddenly dawned on me that both 1976 expansion teams, Seattle and Tampa, came into the league with respective analogous colorways...that are also perfect complements of each other (blue <-> orange // green <-> red), perfectly suited for the climates of their respective corners of the country (cool northwest and warm southeast).

And there's your useless colorway commentary for the day.  🎨

This is absolutely gorgeous. These should come back to the NFL full-time. The only change I'd make is putting the numbers on the shoulders so the stripes can shine on the sleeves. (Oh and also give them back to Houston.)

Why are they replacing the current light blue jersey entirely if they aren’t even wearing these the full three times? They’ve been wearing the light blue jerseys three games every year since 2019. That part is disappointing. Light blue over navy was their best look with the current mess of a uniform set.
