Yeah, and they set the market that's going to cause the Eagles to lose Hargrave, who's a much better player.  Hargrave was projected to get around 18M / 55M guaranteed.   I'm basing that on what writers are saying, because I've never heard of Payne (though nobody's heard of most DTs.)  Hargrave is now probably in the 25M/75 guaranteed range :( .

Still, I don't blame Washington for doing whatever they can to become relevant again.  My main anger right now is still on Cleveland for ruining the QB market forever.

The same can be said of Jeffrey Simmons of Tennessee...the Snatit are already in cap purgatory (though to new GM Ran Carthon's credit, he's trying like heck to clean it up), but if they can't pull together the money to pay him, dude is gone. It's also still entirely possible the Snatit lose both him and Derrick Henry, though via trade...and if the whispers are true, probably to the same team (the Bills).

And speaking of DTs not on either Hargrave's or Simmons' level, Arden Key is due for some money pretty soon, as well...I do have to applaud the way Giraffeneck Baalke has handled the offseason player personnel situations thus far, but at some point some hard choices will need to be made on who to pay and who to risk letting go. Thankfully they have a whole season to figure that part out.

Holy hell.  Hargrave to the 49ers (4/$80, not sure about guarantee.)  That DL will be unblockable.  My gods.

I don't know how possible it'd be, but given Garroppolo just went to the Raiders, what if...somehow...the Niners managed to bring Lamar Jackson into the fold??? That team would be BEYOND scary...

- Dolphins sign Mike White

- Raiders sign Jimmy G.

- Texans sign Case Keenum

Because there's a limit to how far-sighted they can be in negotiating a contract (NFL and NFLPA). NFLPA gives up some negotiating rights for first rounders in exchange for more movement beyond the first round.

I'm not sure I totally understand the logic.  It kinda penalizes teams for finding and developing talent later in the draft.  I'm not saying it's anything that's screwing the Eagles, since every team plays by those same rules, it just stings especially hard when it's a QB that's gonna get around $150-200M guaranteed, and you kinda have to do it after year 3.

Curious what other non-1st-round QBs have been in this situation since the standardized rookie rules were in place. Was Russ before or after that?

And now Patrick Peterson is headed to Pittsburgh...

...The league's got all kind of player movement going on this offseason, doesn't it?

Russ was the same rules as Hurts, but an odd case. His agent ONLY has him for a client, so he doesn't care about how negotiations go, since they can't be used against him with other teams or clients. The agent holds out for the best deal possible.

Players didn't want rookies making so much money, so they limited the amount of money that they could make, but also got shorter contracts for draftees after round 1 so that they could be free agents sooner. Owners and players both liked the deal.

It's where I sit.

Carson Wentz replacement at North Dakota State.  He's unknown because he's been active for one game, plus he was sitting behind Herbert and Chase Daniel.

O/U on games Jimmy G plays next year? I say he makes 9 starts.

I’ll put it at four.

I’ve seen maybe two total Raiders fans, and a bafflingly large number of 49ers fans, say with full confidence that Jimmy G is a “clear” upgrade from Derek Carr. I’m here to say that’s completely and fully ludicrous. He’s absolutely a step down from Carr, and is somehow going to cost the Raiders even more than Carr would’ve 🤦🏼‍♂️

Not that we didn’t know this already, but this is a very stupid organization.

Jimmy G has at least made it to the Super Bowl - something Carr can’t do, regardless of team. And I assume Jimmy was a lot cheaper. If you don’t have a franchise QB, then don’t bother paying for one that’s not. Just someone to keep the seat warm till you find your guy.

The Raiders have signed Jakobi Meyers, a player who already has a rich history of winning games for them.

Too much money for a player Patriots fans have only fooled themselves into believing is a #1/#2 WR thanks to being so shallow at the position.

Two things:

I actually think Jimmy G is going to cost the Raiders more (for at least a season) than Carr did. I could be misinformed about that detail, though.

Also, lol, Rex Grossman made a Super Bowl for many of the same reasons Jimmy G did.

The deal is actually for less than I expected, and Meyers is going to be the WR2 behind Adams anyway, so I like this deal for the Raiders. There’s some concern as to how healthy Renfrow and Waller can stay, but if everyone’s healthy? Jimmy G, Jacobs, Adams, Meyers, Renfrow, and Waller is a pretty solid offensive group. Now they’ve just to fix that porous defense to give that offense a chance to keep up with the rest of the AFC.

EDIT: Welp, Waller just got traded, so there’s that.

Also keep in mind who called that play on offense.  The Patriots would have won had the runner kept the ball.

Remaining QB Free agents: Jacoby Brissett, Baker Mayfield, Teddy Bridgewater, Gardner Minshew, Marcus Mariota, Carson Wentz, Andy Dalton, Cooper Rush, Mason Rudolph, Blaine Gabbert, Chase Daniel, Josh Dobbs, Drew Lock, Mason Rudolph, Joe Flacco.

One of these guys will probably be the Chad Henne replacement in Kansas City.  Whether or not any of them have two epic postseason drives as Henne did remains to be seen.

I want the Bucs to trade up to get Anthony Richardson (just so that their QB room would be 2019 UF's QB room all over again.)

I was hoping the Vikings would do it, but instead they re-signed Nick Mullens, who isn't a terrible backup.
