That doesn't sound very plausible, since we know that colored socks do exist.Β  It also shouldn't be hard to source them elsewhere.Β  Not sure how many super-proprietary colors there are in socks, but some (like the Eagles) would just be black, so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

Β

It's just a look that players seem to like, and since there's no rules, there's nothing anyone can do about it.Β  I've heard some say that the white socks make them look faster.Β  I mean, there's obviously noΒ actualΒ difference, but without rules, they're going to go with whatever they want for whatever reason they want.

What does Merton Hanks (whom I recognized pretty quickly due to the giraffe-like length of his neck) have to do with socks?

He was the NFL's uniform monitor for several years, and the one that would issue the fines for uniform violations and send the memos to the clubs.Β Β

I believe the reason white socks are so preferred now is because they aren't actual socks, they are actually just compression leggings which have notoriously become a big deal in Basketball for the last 10 years. It's a performance thing and a "cool factor" too.

Β

It's not cloth socks anymore most of the time, when you see all white or the "leotard look" it's compression leggings. That's why it's blowing up and all over the league. I don't know what the NFL's sock rule even is because since it's not a sock, wouldn't that be a violation? I don't even know.

Β

The NFL has one of two things they should do, they can mandate cloth socks and ban compression leggings OR teams can start making colored compression leggings that way everybody is happy. If you ask me the latter is the best option.

I didn't see the game, but did they throw a flag on this play?

WOW, they look like an Ivy League. Minimal orange and brown and white surely dominates. Reminds me of the middle school football colors we had. White helmets with brown jerseys and white pants and white helmets with white jerseys and brown pants. I love it. All we need now is a better spokesperson who does not call the helmets snow cap and icy and that garbageΒ

First favorite player, and one of the reasons I dropped the Niners for the Bucs. I even had a Merton Hanks jersey.Β
Β

Also, @CujoΒ is spot on. This Browns look is mid af.Β

I'm quite certain there is colored compression leggings.Β  It was evident tonite in Carolina by the Saints in their favorite mono black neck to shoes look.Β  (Pic is from another game before.)

I think the commenter meant colors beyond just white and black. I believe black compression leggings are a thing already.Β
Β

Also, I agree now with @BBTV - bring back Merton!

They have them in all colors. Most teams have been wearing leggings for the last several years. Its not a matter of them not having them, it is a matter that white is what is the trend currently.Β

I agree 100% especially because they already have their base set in black and chose not to wear their red alternate and have already used the current throwback multiple seasons.Β

Β

I'm assuming the Falcons are throwing back to their first year (1966ish?)Β  -- Either way, good luck naming a player from that expansion team or one who even wore that uniform from their early days. Deion wore the red uniform for one season and made it much more iconic than any throwback they wore prior.

Can't they just sublimate stripes onto the leggings? Just get a vector file (and it has to be vector, if a raster file's resolution's not large enough, it'll look like crap) of the stripes and print it.Β

After the Broncos wore their white uniform at home in Denver, they break a drought of not wearing white at home.

Β

Teams who have gone the longest without wearing their white jersey/uniform at home in their own stadium since they last did so.Β

Β

1. Pittsburgh Steelers (1969)

2. Kansas City Chiefs (2006)

3. Arizona Cardinals (2009)

4. New England Patriots (2011)

5. Philadelphia Eagles (2015)

Β

The teams after the top 5 are in 2019, but they have 4 years and their drought isn't that long.

Aren’t the Seahawks about to wear white home for the first time EVER?
