2023-24 NBA Season thread

Everyone knocked Minnesota so hard for that Gobert trade, but it’s like they knew that KAT would find some way to :censored: it all up, and they needed the insurance plan.

I’m really excited to see if this young, kinda dumb team can handle the onslaught they’re gonna get thrown by Dallas. I think they can, but man that has the potential to be a really fun one. Both of these teams are really flawed but REALLY talented.

I kinda feel like if Boston doesn’t finally win it this year that they deserve all the criticism they’ll get.

It probably won’t happen, but the idea of a Minnesota Indiana final is hilarious.

Recent conference finalists have included the Nuggets, Bucks, Timberwolves, Mavericks and the Pacers.

What a wild time in the NBA.

75-80 had it too, but this is still awesome

Either we are just taking a break from the dynasties for a decade or this may very well be a sign of things to come.

The NBA went so long being a foundation of super teams that would win titles three to four years in a row, but now this currently feels bizarre. It's welcomed, but is it worth getting hopes up for?

To answer the very last question: YES. Because overlooked cities/teams/markets are finally starting to get some deserved shine. Four of the five recent finalists @DG_ThenNowForever mentioned are all in the midwest. We all know how much TV/media loves coastal royalty, so I for one am glad the midwest swing is on.

Now, is this a harbinger of things to come? I don't know, but I do know this: much of this parity is still in the West, so the East better figure out a way to close the gap and catch up lest be stuck as the Leastern Conference for another generation more...

It would have been nice if Wemby would have ended up in the East (or Edwards, for non-Wolves fans). Or if the Hornets would have held onto SGA. With Brunson as a notable exception, it seems like the best players all either get drafted by a West team, get traded to a West team, or sign with a West team.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

I think it's been a weird year with injuries especially for the East. Celtics seem likely to remain the favorites, but the Knicks, Pacers, Bucks and Sixers should all have a few years of legit contention for 1 seed as well, if they don't screw up badly in the coming off-season. And I think the Magic will really emerge as a top-four side the next few years, too.

Isn't it crazy how that keeps happening? Even when LeBron went west and you saw an exodus of guys heading east (KD, Butler, Harden, Westbrook, etc), it always normalizes in the end.

I think a healthy Knicks team is a title contender right now, but they're not healthy. And it's hard to take the Celtics seriously until they actually win something.

Dallas or Minnesota as NBA champions sounds kind of inconceivable but also, why not? They keep on having great wins.

I don't understand the "whoa, pump the brakes, speed racer, dallas winning the finals?!?!" narrative when they've literally won one in recent-ish memory.

I mean, they've generally been in the pits since they won the finals 13 years ago. But that's a more recent title than any of the other contenders right now (Boston in 2008, Minnesota and Indiana never in the NBA).

Since that 2011 Championship win, they had "Dallas Cowboys Syndrome" in that they were good enough to get into the playoffs but always got knocked out in the first round or they finished just outside of playoff contention (pre-Play In Tournament) and their season ended on the final day of the regular season.  The Mavs more than anything want to win it with Luka Doncic, because neither them nor the fanbase want to see him win an NBA title somewhere else.

The 2011 NBA Championship forever changed the narrative on Luka's predecessor, Dirk Nowitzki.

That was seen as kind of a fluke and there is no connection from the current team to that team, outside of the owner and ugly logo.

Head Coach Jason Kidd was on that team.

It may have been a fluke, but it forever changed the narrative on Dirk Nowitzki.

Also, a Mavs vs. Pacers NBA Finals could be a lot of fun.....and it would be Pacers coach Rick Carlisle against the team he coached to an NBA Title in 2011.

Good point.

And yes, that series immortalized Dirk. It made him an all-timer.
