BBTV
The coaches you play for, the system you're in, the competence of the organization, hell - whether you'll even play or sit behind some dbag for 3 seasons - all play into how much you'll make in your second contract, which could be >$100M guaranteed, or... $0. He absolutely has a right to be concerned, as does anyone. It's just that not everyone has the leverage. Honestly, I'm not sure that he has leverage, because it's unlikely that he'd hold out an entire year. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that drafts will go away at some point. As we get to the point where players are already millionaires before the draft, they'll have even more leverage, and eventually the legality of the draft will be brought into question. I'm not sure that it's not legal, but the way these things go it'll eventually go away. 1 1 Quote "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." DG_YouKnowWhatThatMeans
Does anyone hold the Colts against John Elway? Or the Chargers against Eli Manning? They both made the best decisions for their careers. 3 1 Quote 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
The_Admiral
Conversely, in the most infamous case of 1OA holdouts, everyone holds it against Eric Lindros (except Philly). It's not quite as simple as "power to the players"--I think the franchise has to be an unholy dumpster fire in order to flex that muscle, which the Nordiques were not but the Bears are. You look at this team with guys getting frog-marched out of the building for watching porn at work and then saying "we like our culture," with a team president who can't navigate tax codes but can commission puff pieces about how he takes a long time to get out of bed in the morning, and yeah, they've reached the lows that it takes to justify not accepting the selection. The Nordiques were pretty much a dumpster fire - dead last for 5 seasons prior to the Lindros draft, and (according to Eric) it was as much to do with not wanting to be associated with Marcel Aubut who had some sexual assault (or something similar) case against him. I was big into hockey back then, and remember the joke that the Nordiques had become. It worked out for them, as that was their "Herschel Walker" moment that propelled them to greatness (albeit in 5280). Also his earning potential would theoretically be significantly less playing for a team that couldn't afford to get him good sidekicks, and I'm sure the league itself didn't want it (plus his daddy told him so.) The Flyers just had something similar work against them, when some hot prospect (Cutter something?) forced his rights to be traded for pennies on the dollar. People are up in arms. I couldn't care less. Not just because I gave up on hockey a long time ago, but because what goes around. Apparently he was scared of Tortarella or something. 2 Quote "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." MJWalker45
Chargers are first up to try and bring in Harbaugh. I figured he was moving out this year, but his starting QB jumping to the draft tells me he's leaving too.

Whoever is the next head coach will spend at least a half hour talking about how they plan on making Justin Herbert a top 5 QB.

BBTV
I've seen the script. Ravens win the SB, John Harbaugh decides to retire with 2 rings, and is succeeded by his brother. TrueYankee26
Well after tonight's game Jerry Jones have to put McCarthy on the first flight out of DFW and do anything to get Bill Belichick wearing a hoodie with a blue star on it. 1 Quote trueyankee26.wordpress.com
BBTV
As a fan of another lousy team, I hope that's what happens. I can't imagine that going well, and he'd clash with Jones and possibly get fired mid-season for it. That hire would set the team back - not propel them forward. 8BW14
I think Jerry Jones is too proud and stubborn to fire Mike McCarthy. I’m also not 100 % sure I think he should, but if he does, Jerry needs to check his ego and get a “big personality guy”. No more lap dogs. I want Pete Carrol or Jim Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin, if he’s available. They need someone who can light a spark. Jason Garret and Mike McCarthy are just boring as hell, uninspiring. There’s too much talent on the roster to keep doing the same thing over and over and hoping for better luck next time.
BBTV
He can't have Pete Carrol. I want Pete Carrol. Jerry Jones will have to fight me for him, and I'm fairly certain I'd win that one. 1 Quote "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." BBTV
Jason Kelce retiring. 6 first-team All Pros. Lock for HOF. Top 3 Eagle in my lifetime, along with Reggie White and Brian Dawkins. Fortunately they already have his replacement (who he himself told them to draft), but it'll be a drop off because of course it will be. Dominoes are falling. I think many of us thought this was going to be at least a 4-year window of sustained success, but it's over.
