I think this is the definition of an overreaction to this new piece of news.

I think even with orange pants, the white jerseys themselves still need more orange. But even if that's fixed, there's no way I'd put the Bengals higher than middle of the pack, much less "best looking team in the league and it isn't even close."

They should bring these back if they want to be among the best looking teams in the league

They looked good back then, but I don't see how a full-on implementation of this would work on the current jersey cuts. Having the shoulder stripes, TV numbers, sleeve logos, AND the Nike logos would just make it look too squashed together, like with the Panthers. You have to remove at least one of those elements (and it's obviously not gonna be the Nike logo).

Yeah I love those old Bengals unis but I also don’t see how they would work on the current template.

I can get the argument that the current set is maybe a half notch below the 90s look, which I personally disagree with, but respect because that is a fantastic look. But the Bengals were already the best dressed team in the league, and this just makes them look even better.

Also sidebar because someone mentioned it in passing above: I’ll never fully understand the love for the current Chargers look. It’s at best fine, at worst washed out looking. And paired with the yellow/gold pants, it’s a DISASTER of a look. It was a bad look when they originally used it, and it’s even worse now. White helmet, powder jersey, and yellow pants is my least favorite look in football, and I will never get some of y’all who think it’s the best look in the league.

That's fair. I'd remove the logo. You need the stripes and I think the TV numbers are more important. I'd probably put the TV numbers where the logo is on the sleeve in that pic and make the shoulder stripes bulkier.

I like the new Denver set sans the goofy helmet stripe. However, much like the majority of the league, they seem to suffer from contrasting socks deficiency.

It doesn't look like the Broncos to me. Maybe that'll change in time, but I'm not a bug fan of this design regardless.

Also I'm confused on why there are no TV numbers. There's clearly room on the shoulders for them.

Different application...the Panthers' sleeve stripes are not set into the sleeve caps which is why there's so little space between them and the collar. Observe below...

...That sleeve design is contained fully within the sleeve cap, leaving plenty of room for TV numbers.

(But yeah, the Panthers should explore removing the cat head and sticking the TV numbers under the sleeve stripes...it'd necessitate moving the stripes up a bit, but I think it can work...)

Upon further reflection, I do have to admit the armpit sweat triangles really tie the look together.

The Chargers latest uniforms are more empty on the shoulders than the Broncos new set, and could also use TV numbers, but I don't hear anyone bitching about that?

And just think, they still have another slot for a fourth jersey…

I actually had a suggestion previously for a fourth jersey for the Bengals. Picture a white jersey with orange stripes instead of black. This could replace the current white jersey for the primary and make the white jersey and pants with black stripes CR only.

On a side note, I wonder if this could be the start of a second alternate trend (two extra jerseys that aren't throwbacks or CR). We've seen the Dolphins and 49ers with two throwbacks, and the Chargers have two CR uniforms, so why not two alternates for some teams? The Bengals even have two names lined up for their sets already: their namesake and the white tiger.

I'm not a fan of that decision either, tbf.

Part of the reason they get less flak for it has to be the numbers on the helmet.

I can't believe people are calling for the return of the Broncos' previous goofy number set. Along with the side panel Nike swooshes, this was one of the elements that made the old uniforms  so horrible. The new uniform, minor elements aside, finally makes the wearer look much more like a football player and less like a clown.

Thats my 1 critique of that uniform. All NFL teams should have sleeve or shoulder numbers. It looks way to college/high school without it.

That's a fair assessment, but I think people are missing the rather large, if not featured, numbers on the back of the Broncos new helmets. I think this design element almost serves the same purpose as the ones on the Chargers helmet, just placed in a different location.

The Steelers have large numbers on the helmet and the shoulders. The Colts have large helmet numbers and still have numbers on the sleeves.

The back of helmet numbers arent really a replacement for shoulder/sleeve numbers

Not at all. Side of the helmet is visible from the side, the more common viewpoint, like shoulder numbers. Back/front of helmet numbers are no different than back/front numbers on jerseys, only smaller and repetitive.

Yeah the Steelers, Raiders, Giants, Colts all come to mind as helmets with prominent front/back numbers.  Doesn't really serve the same purpose as TV numbers.

Wearing them against Cleveland is so stupid

Just pure stupidity. There's a certain arrogance to ripping off another team's look and then wearing it against them. But if I'm the Browns I wear orange pants anyway. Just like they have for just about every division game since 2020.

Yup, but that's the way the NFL is going now: looking like high school teams on the field.

It started with the monochrome unis, then morphed into mono-black,  then "icy whites", pants without stripes, shirts untucked, underarm sections on jerseys cut out, and all-white socks.

The only thing missing now is a cheesy marching band.
