Moderator here. If you've got beef with people outside this message board, keep it there. Don't bring it in here. Suspensions will be handed out if it continues.

If you've got what you believe to be "inside information," then you should be prepared to back it up. We're not asking for specific sources, but it should be more than just "trust me bro." And, most importantly, don't be a jerk about that information. We've been to this rodeo before, where "insiders" come in expecting us to bend a knee when given a scrap of info. And we've seen how that usually plays out, so I think we're right to be skeptical. Suspensions have been handed out for this type of trolling before, and I speak for the whole mod team when I say we don't have any qualms about doing it again.

The weird thing about insider info in this particular realm is that anything that gets "leaked" will eventually come out anyway. The Woj/Shams-ification of sports news where for some reason we've decided the most valuable possible reporting is simply rewording a press release 2 days early. Not exactly unearthing the secrets of Watergate here.

the red ones were released last year so they are for sure staying the same, but I hated the change. The previous one was much better

Oh, crud. I thought they were still the same as the old ones. The new ones ain’t bad bit they ain’t the old ones either.

And it’s not like these “insiders” really have some hugely exclusive scoop or anything. There are quite a few people I know of who have access to a ton of this type of information (some you may be very surprised about!) who post here. They just never bring it up. Or, at least they’re very cleaver about it.

I love how the thin white stroke for the script acts as the strings/lace of the net, especially with it being directly beneath the hoop shape. While Nets is a pretty uninspired name, this is one of the most clever ways they are able to represent their namesake. The thick black outline really separates it from whatever background it's on, which I think works well in terms of balancing the skinniness of the script. Not quite sure how this would look on the front of a jersey due to dimensions and the thin nature of the script, but it's a very promising logo making the absolute most of a boring name and color scheme. Should they opt for a rebrand, I think a cursive Brooklyn script in the same vein as this would be beautiful.

As far as other potential Nets rebrand plans go, I would like to see the argyle/diamond pattern come back in some capacity. It was unique and generally good looking IMO, so I'd love to see it return to the side panel of their jerseys, or maybe even the trim if it looks right.

I'm seeing more of an attempt at a marker graffiti tag with that Nets script. Clever but script logos are so hard to pull off for words that short (or words that are long).

Interesting, though not surprising that they're formalizing the now-decade-long rollback of the Nets erasure from the early Brooklyn days.

If that script is supposed to convey a basketball net, it failed miserably. It's also not very readable.

I don't understand why they won't just adopt their 2K League team's logo and call it a day instead of grasping at straws like this. I don't think that would be much different than, for example, the Sixers adopting the dribbling Ben Franklin from the All-Star Game as part of their own logo package, or the Wizards and Mystics sharing the same "dc" alternate logo for many years.

You won't find a better logo that equally represents the city and team name than this:

Agreed. The incorporated rim is a nice detail, but the whole script itself is really incohesive and with the letterforms all over the place, and hardly resembles any net, for that matter.

The 2K League logo is nice, but there are also so many more ways for a Brooklyn logo package along those lines using those motifs, and none of the directions and style that the Nets are doing are good.

i mean im glad theyve found some more personality. but i think weve got enough script in the league now. theres already the kings and clippers who just recently made changes. and then the sixers on their statement jerseys. i wouldnt really associate brooklyn and the nets with cursive. i know its a little cheesy, but i actually didnt mind when they used to experiment with some of that graffiti wordmarking.

i also think they really need to change that skinny letter font

I could see the new script logo being on the shorts (and eventually to the front of a jersey cause that’s how it goes nowadays) but as a standalone it doesn’t convey “Nets” well. If it’s meant to be a net it’s rough. But at least it’s an attempt to show a net compared to the toony logo from 1997

I assume the new Nets logo is just going to be an alternate. It seems like statement edition uniforms have a 2 year minimum lifespan (based off observation, idk if it's an official rule or not) and the Nets completed year 2 with their statement last season, so I imagine we could see a new statement uniform released this offseason. The tweet mentioned how they found the W logo from the Warriors' new statement jersey when digging through trademarks, furthering my belief that this is an alternate logo fora new statement jersey.
