I don't know if this was already brought up, but I saw A'ja Wilson with platimum hair and what looked like a color-stripped jersey on, got me curious as to what that was, and...I guess at some point in the offseason, Mark Davis decided to do Mark Davis things with his other team and "unify the branding"...

On one hand, its an instant downgrade for me, since the red and gold "popped" so well against the black and I much preferred the vertical wordmark—that was their "thing". On the other hand, given that the Aces have pretty much played their way into being the W's "villain" now, I suppose taking on the identity of the Raiders makes some level of sense. And in a weird way, it's a full-circle thing for Becky Hammon, who played in those colors when the team was still the San Antonio Silver Stars, so there's that. They may grow on me as the season progresses.

That said...if they're gonna stack silver on top of white like that, they've defintiely got to thicken those black strokes. Make it more legible.

It is weird that it felt like the Aces tried to move away from the Silver Stars look when they moved to Vegas, and now they're going back.  The gold and red vibed with the Golden Knights and playing card suits.  But now that the Raiders are in town it does make some sense.

Downgrade for sure.

Raiders Aces don't look good. Aces are means to be black and red just like a cards colors and gold is to represent casinos. They've got perfect color scheme, so change that to something that doesn't fit at all especially with red alternate was a wrong idea. I hope Mark Davis quickly realize that and revert changes.

Sparks throwback to 1999?  I don't see that at all.  Even if they throwback to Lakers it still look like a bootleg jersey. Good thing is that yellow is back. They should never get rid of it at first place.

So are we expecting the Golden State WNBA Team to have a similar color scheme to the Warriors?

I hope not. There's already a blue & gold team with the Chicago Sky. The name should be announced next week or relatively soon. Not sure if they have the branding yet.

Also in the news: Toronto has landed an expansion team for 2026.

Sky are more sky blue and navy though, not Warriors royal, so I don't know that that would stop them. That said, wouldn't be surprised to see the ownership group see this as their opportunity to go fully into the slate color that they love so much, just for funsies. The Toronto team is not going to be owned by MLSE but as a side project of one of their billionaire investors, so tough to guess what direction that one might go in.

I think these teams should be trying to establish their own identity and to not look like a copycat of another team in their city. The Aces decision was disappointing because it shows that their owner values them less than the other team he owns, and even if the Raiders are a clearly bigger brand, that's still not a good look in context to the WNBA and Aces IMO. I understand that others teams like the Mercury, Sparks, and Mystics are based off of their parent NBA teams, but newer teams shouldn't have to be going that direction. I know the WNBA isn't on that high-tier level of other professional sports leagues yet, but it would help from a branding standpoint for their teams to go their own route. Unfortunately though, if an owner has control over two different teams, he/she gets to decide so there really isn't much that can be done there.

Will Toronto's team follow the pattern of 'piggy-backing' (for lack of a better word) off of the same city's NBA team?

Probably not. The ownership is different in this case. Larry Tannenbaum will be the sole owner of the WNBA team, according to the reports. He's a minority stakeholder in MLSE, but maybe not enough to convince MLSE to play off the Raptors' branding.

Hasn't Tannenbaum been sort of the point man for MLSE dating back to before the somehow-legal Bell-Rogers consortium? I don't think he'd have too hard a time with it.

Huh, didn't anticipate that one. Very smooth way to retcon the "Warriors" as a Norse mythology thing and not a Native stereotype thing. Not sure I agree with rendering a logo that's a twist on the GSW logo, but then going with a totally different color scheme.

The name was such an obvious slam-dunk IMO, very happy they went with it.

Not a huge fan of the color scheme, though — especially in the context of Las Vegas going to a black and silver scheme.

Definitely see what they’re going for, but all I think of are the PVF’s Orlando Valkyries.

Pretty odd that we went from zero major women’s sports franchises named the Valkyries to two within two years.

i have unquantifiable corpses on my conscience

Having the team being called "Golden State" and then not having gold in any form or fashion in the look seems wrong IMO. A touch of Vegas Gold would have looked nice here. Other than that, not bad, if a bit underwhelming. The lavender is a nice change of pace.
