the lily (fleur de lis) was claimed to have sprung from the tears shed by Eve as she left Eden (just as the lily of the valley was said to have grown from the tears of the Virgin at the foot of the Cross). From its earliest records it has been the symbol of purity and was accordingly readily adopted by the Church to associate the Virgin Mary's sanctity with events of special significance. Thus when Pope Leo III in AD 800 crowned Charlemagne as Emperor, he was reported to have presented him with a blue banner covered with golden fleurs-de-lis.

The fleur-de-lis is both a religious symbol of purity (see above) and the

crest of the Borboun kings of France (now of Spain too) who founded and

ruled New Orleans for so long. It is a perfect logo for the city and "Saints"

though the thought of a black helmet with a gold halo around it is interesting (though probably fugly if actually done.)

That and Elvis should stay. If you want to change logos, start here:

1. Jets--boring, boring, boring, a team with a great name like Jets should have

a more dynamic logo.

2. Bills--I like the charging buffalo, but they could make it a lot better with

some shading.

3. Browns--not for helmet, but the dog logo could look a lot better.

4. Cardinals--perhaps the lamest of the lame.

i have to disagree. the cardinals logo ranks among the untouchables with green bay and chicago.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's untouchable, but if updated properly, it could move into greatness. Unfortunately, so many NFL updates lately haven't come anywhere near "properly done".

Arizona is the worst, because it just looks like someone is being stingy with their money and refusing to update it. I know someone could argue the same thing about how it's traditional, but sometimes you gotta throw tradition out of the window and update that bad boy. Arizona needs an update badly.

i have always liked the Cardinals logo, as 'Tame' as it may be, only a minimal amount of updating I would allow.

Personally, I don't think a logo must suck just because it only involves a letter on a helmet. All three I listed above are great.

Top of my list to update would be.....

Patriots - It's not that it sucks, just not as good as the original Pat Patriot and I firmly believe that a team named Patriots should have a Red, White and Blue color scheme instead of Blue and Silver (same complaint for the WashingtonCapitals in the NHL)

Browns - Get a BROWN helmet or some kind of Logo with Brown in it of some sort. It's orange people, orange.

Broncos - See my comments on Patriots, I don't hate the new horsehead, but the old one was great. Could've changed color scheme to the darker blue and kept the old logo with maybe a slight design tweak.

Dolphins - They need to redesign the helmet on the dolphin on the helmet, right now it's just an "M". (OK on this one I am just kidding, I have always hated the dolphins but the logo is great)

Actually I think they just destroy the SF logo and just destroy the entire teams from GB, Chicago, and KC.

Ok I stand by both my picks. I didn't say the Fleur de Lis doesn't represent France or Saints, but its hardly a striking representation of saints. And in all my time in the catholic Church, I have never seen a 'Fleur-De-Lis' within the Church.

And come on. the Flying Elvis is bad. You all know it. If it was produced toda there would be 23 pages of comments saying how plop it is. You all know that.

ok i agree with a few things you said, like the SF G C and KC are all good. patriots i could go either way, im one of the few who believe the browns unis are one of the true classics, and their helmet logo is good (a giant orange dot). i mean would you want to see penn state put a logo on ther helmets? no their too classic. same thing with the dolphins logo, its awesome. if they would have changed to that nasty design they had as a concept in the early 90's i would have puked. thats why the jets changed back. because it was a classic look, and a damn good one. but i agree the broncos uniforms suck major d#@k. they are the ugliest uniforms i have ever seen.

They were named for the owner, not the color. I love the orange helmet, always will.

I do, however, wish to see Pittsburgh re-do their uniforms so that teal and fuschia are represented accordingly.

Nobody touch the flying "elvis." Come on, it looks nothing like elvis, and the head clearly has a 3-cornered hat on it. Besides, they've already won 2 Super Bowls with it. The Cardinals is terrible. I don't even want to hear it being called untouchable, because that really only applies nowadays to logos that bring the team success. The Packers and Bears have at least won Supe Bowls since the eighties. The Redskins need to go back to the spear, because I'm kinda offended by their logo as a part-Blackfoot Indian. But, the worst of all is the Bengals' B. Bring back the leaping tiger as a primary!
