New nfl logos and jersey ideas

Titans - Drop the oilers colors, im not crazy about light blue and royal blue. the addition of red wouldn't hurt. i wouldn't mind modifying the logo to incorporate the confederate flag where the 3 stars are. I found a website where someone did some nfl to nhl cross overs and they had a titans concept that had the confederate flag incorporated with the colors of the flag. if i could ever find it again i would post it.

if ANY of these things happened, i wouldn't be a fan anymore.

a confederate flag?! :puke:

and the oilers colors are the best part. if anything, i'd like to see them use them more. less navy, more powder.. more red.

but a confederate flag? you'd probably gain a few dukes of hazzard fans, but you'd lose me.

Why does everybody hate the Bengals jerseys? Am I the only one who likes them?(especially the helmets)

Huh? I think if you ask around, the majority of us love the Bengals helmet.

But their new uniforms are atrocious. Especially that blasted white stripe on the black and orange jerseys. I guess the white one is fine IMO.

The circle with the three stars is similar to the Tennessee state flag. Remember the Tennessee Oilers and the patch on teh shoulder?

I love them. I like them being modern and different. The teams that cant really change their jerseys like the Packers and Bears should really have at least a modern alternate jersey.

Why be a half-ass? If you are going to stick the confederate flag on there why not use a burning cross for the alternate logo?

Come to think of it, it does form the shape of a "T".

I'll just talk about the 4 big ones that have been disscussed.

Jets- Good update that they did, keep it. Retro but if a new team came out with it today, I wouldn't call it a retro look. I always liked the white on green the best. Plus I love black shoes in football.

Bears- Sorry, I don't support the addition of any logos to their uniform. I don't support them in all blue again, and I don't support an orange alt. It didn't look bad when they wore the throwbacks, but I'd rather keep one of the NFL's best looks. The Bears and Packers Unis now are like the Yankees, perfection.

I personally like the new Bear as the old one kinda looked like one of the Superfans.

Titans- Ignorant. I don't care if the Confederate flag didn't stand for anything about slavery in the begining, it does today. Just stupid. It'd be like putting a swastica (sp?) on a helmet and going "Well orginally it was a christian symbol."

Bengels. Helmets good. Uniforms watchable when its all black, black white, white white, any combination other than the orange/black. But it still ain't good. Too gaudy and they stole the bears numbers! They used to be original.

why does everyone want to mess with Oakland? The jerseys are simple and clean without having logos jammed in every available space, or those stupid colored panels that merge with the pants, and why add gold? I know they had it briefly in the past, but that team was even worse than the last 2 years' incarnation. The one change I'd make is the silver #s on the white jersey; they wore them as throwbacks in '94 and they looked sweet. And why is it a problem that the logo's not intimidating? It's an instantly recognizable logo all across this country, at least, why change it? And it has to be more intimidating than, say, a letter, a frolicking dolphin, or the color orange.

And the complaint that too many teams wear black? Hey, we started it, why the heck should we change?

Chargers - as long as they don't go back to the powder blues im fine. what they have now is fine.

a confederate flag!?!? why dont the berlin thunder use the nazi flag in thier logo? face it: u lost th civil war. the csa flag is a flag of treason and hatrd. u are a moron if u think a sports team in this day and age could use such a symbol. for the alt. u could use the kkk emblem. and while ur at it u could ban black guys from the stadium and fire all the black players. moron.

redskins- pc is communist, eh? so respecting other people's culters and sensitivites is communist? well then "workers of the world unite!"

I think we all need to appreciate that the NFL has as many beautiful uniforms as it does. Unlike it leagues like the NBA and NHL, teams aren't constantly switching color schemes and logos (ie. Vancouver Canucks, Denver Nuggets). Though we might not all like the white stripe on the Bengals' uniforms, at least they kept the helmet.

I can't think of any NFL team that needs a complete overhaul. Sure, we would all tweak a few things here and there. The NFL is never going to be able to please all of us. I am happy with the way things are now.

But, in the spirit of this thread, here is what I would do to create my ideal NFL. This is just MY opinion, so go ahead and rip me up, but I have thought a lot about this so it probably won't change how I feel. However, I would like to hear from some of the big names on this board why I am wrong.

Rules that should apply to all teams, for the rest of time

1) No team is ever allowed to wear all one color, unless that color is white.

1a) No team is ever allowed to wear a uniform featuring socks that are the same color as the pants.

1b) No team is allowed to have a gray facemask unless gray or silver is part of its color scheme.

2) Teams must pick one home and one away uniform (includes pants and jersey), and stick to it for the entire season. I don't like alternate uniforms, but I accept that they make a lot of money, so teams are allowed to have 1 alternate uniform (either a throwback or a recoloring of their current template using colors already in their palette) and it can be worn twice a year.

3) Unless a team can make a case that it has "classic" uniforms, it will not be allowed to use the standard collegiate number font and must adopt a unique number font. Even classic-uniformed teams like the Colts will be encouraged to use number fonts that incorporate elements of their wordmarks. There will be restrictions regarding how "out there" these fonts can be. I mostly want to see a unique, tasteful serif here and there to break up the monotony of all collegiate numbers. An example of a team that would benefit greatly from a font that differs even slightly from standard collegiate is the Seahawks.

4) Every team must put it's wordmark under the collar. This was a hard one for me, but it looks so good on the teams that do it that teams like the Raiders and Packers will have to bite the bullet and make this minor change to their uniforms. I do not see this as ruining tradition in any way. You don't see some teams with TV numbers and some without -- they all have them. Wordmarks under the collar should be another necessity for every team.

4a) No logos can be used to subsititute for wordmarks (ie. Bengals, Giants) and no logos may appear in weird places (ie. Cardinals). Logos may appear on helmets, sleeves, shoulders and the hip of pants (at the top of the stripe). Nowhere else.

5) Shoulder yokes will be tolerated, but discouraged. Yokes that change the color of the nameplate on white jerseys (ie. Bills, Cardinals) will be outlawed.

6) No team will be allowed to have a major discrepancy in striping between home and away uniforms. This means that a team such as the Raiders (silver piping around numbers on white uniforms, but no piping on dark uniforms) is acceptable, but teams like the Giants and Vikings (striping on white jersey sleeves but not dark jersey sleeves) will be forced to change.

7) All new uniforms must be approved by Chris Creamer and a panel of 7 elite board members as voted on by all of us who visit this community on a regular basis.

firing all the black players? who would we have left on the roster then? drew bennett and 2 backup quarterbacks? :)

but now, i'm complete agreement with your entire post.

redskins is a racial slur (and before anyone says "well natives don't seem to mind", well, i'm about 1/4 native, and i think it's bullplop")... but i have no problems with native themed teams. keep the uniforms, keep the logos... change the name to the warriors though. the logos and uniforms are great, if the name was only more respectful.

and i agree that powder blue rocks... i'm a proud owner of a powder blue tomlinson jersey..... but if they decide to bring it back full time, they shouldn't just wear the throwbacks every game. those uniforms are severely outdated, and need an update. besides, what makes the powder blue chargers such a special event is the fact that it only happens once a year. if it happened every week, it wouldn't be as awesome.

The Confederate flag doesnt stand for anything different today than it did when it started. Its other people who don't understand it that make that association right away. I would mind it the Titans used some Stars and Bars as a stripe on an alternate uniform. But using the actual flag would never work for a uniform because the NAACP would be all over the NFL.

Here are some changes I'd like to see:

Baltimore Ravens: Update the black alternate and use it a little more.

Buffalo Bills: I'm with everyone else to change the uniforms completely. If they want to make a big change maybe they can switch to red jerseys and make the blue alternates (similar to the Broncos change)

Carolina Panters. I'd like to see them make the black jersey an alternate and use the blue jersey instead. I just think it looks better.

Cincinnati Bengals: Again I'm with everyone else. Keep the helmet and change the uniforms (mainly the white panel).

Cleveland Browns: I'd like to see them try and use different shades of brown and drop orange (however I'm not sure if that would work).

Indianapolis Colts: I'd like to see them make there whole uniforms updated and change the helmet logo. Mainly because I think a team should completely change their image when they move and let the old city keep its uniforms (I know I'm a bit of a homer, but I've felt that way for all teams).

New Orleans Saints: Make a gold jersey.

Philadelphia Eagles: Get rid of black alternate

San Diego Chargers: I like there uniform now fine, but the powder blues are much better.

Seattle Seahawks. Use more and a different shade of green.

St. Louis Rams: Change the helmet. (I do like it, but I'd be a hypocrite if I said to keep it)

Tennesse Titans: Drop light blue and use dark blue and red.

Washington Redskins: Use spear helmet.

Raiders-that damn guy just isnt intimidating and unlike most

TB-i would like to see the old colors with a updated pirate

You gotta be kidding me. The raiders have one awesome look, and yes it is intimidating. Read up on piratres and youll see why. And one more thing, Tampa changed their colors for a reason. First off the Two different shades of orange were associated to losing, and honestly, they are just stright up ugly. Although they are ugly, i would like to see them pulled out twice a year for a throwback day

thanks Cole. i find it funny that the redskins have an offesive name, but thy actually have a very respectible logo.

as for the chargers, i agree. i have changed my stance a little bit. the powder blues as the remain now should only be used once a year. the primaries should be an updated version of them (add some navy trim, maby).

Not a big name, but I'll comment:

1. Someday, there will be a single-color uniform that's going to make us all gasp and say YES! Granted, it hasn't happened yet. As for all white, I'd really rather see a difference in the pants than a bland all-white.

1 a. agreed. 1b. I'd allow a gray facemask if a team played before, say, 1960.

2. I disagree. A CREATIVE alternate can work, and often does in hockey.

3. Fine, but let's keep them legible from, say, at least the front row of the upper deck, shall we? (And it would be interesting to see a Packers jersey with "stenciled" numbers.

4. My big disagreement with this list. If your uniform is so indistinct that you need to put the team name on it, that's bad design - like needing to put WISCONSIN on the state flag because it looks like 30 other blue state flags with state seals. Besides, nobody can see the damn things unless they're getting a closeup on TV, which is using 17 graphics to tell you who it is anyway. Logos, yes, if a team wants. But not those tiny wordmarks. Oh, and never, NEVER have numbers below the waistline, sunshine (Dallas-Green Bay-Indy in the big 80s)

5. I'll disagree here, too; I like the 60s Steelers, for example. And I can live with the yoke dropping for the nameplate.

6. I generally agree, but there has to be some leeway for when a striping design on a dark jersey doesn't transfer well to white.

7. No problem there. :) I'd also require that teams hold intrasquad scrimmages wearing the new design so that we can see how they look on the field rather than just voting on 2-D designs.

AND my addendum:

1. No more than ONE league patch per person. Put it on the helmet, shirt, pants, I don't care; just one, please. We've sorta figure out it's the NFL we're watching.

2. A manufacturer's logo may be NO LARGER than the earhole on a helmet.

3. Kickers' shoes must be the same color on both feet. Most of us learned how to tell our right from our left years ago.
