SEMOSTLfan
Im only 19 so my olympic memories don't go back that far. My earliest olympic memory was the Gold Medal Game of the 1994 Hockey Tournament in Lillehammer. Peter Forsberg wins the Gold for Sweden over Canada in a shootout. My Favorite moment is probably from Salt Lake in 2002 when team USA beat Russia 22 years to the day after the Miracle on Ice. An honerable mention goes to a non USA moment, when Jamie Salei and David Peltier were awarded their rightful gold medal and got to have their own medal ceremony. FightinIrish11
i can think of one off hand, from 1998 when brett hull and the USA hockey team completely trashed their hotel rooms cuz they were pissed off that they sucked. that was just kinda funny. all kidding aside, one of my favorite moments is when dan jansen/janson (?) finally won his gold medal in speed skating following his sister's death. correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that was also in lillehammer at the '94 games. I'd have to say that's the first big moment I can recall watching as well. I remember watching a bit of the 88 and 92 games, bot nothing really stuck out like Jansen finally winning gold. As for my favorite all-time Winter Olympic moment, It's gotta be the Miracle On Ice.
zer0dotcom
I'll answer for everyone north of the border and say 2002. That way we can get some different answers. Snowboarding 1998, Ross Rebliati, his gold medal and the 'doping' scandal that followed. Not a real favorite, but memorable

Pixelboy
My favourite memories of the Winter Olympics are from Lillihammer in 1994, mostly because I was there for almost an entire month working for Canadian television. I was far too busy to attend many actual events, although I did manage to scrounge free tickets to a couple of the Canadian men's hockey round-robin games and the men's short figure skating. One memory from Lillihammer that I enjoy is during the soap opera that was Tanya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan. The bar in the media centre was just outside the CTV and CBS broadcast centres (natch) and a bunch of we Canucks were gathered watching a Canada hockey game on one of the bar TVs, while at the next table a bunch of CBS guys were glued to another set watching the figure skating soap opera. A CBS camera crew was shooting their brethren transfixed to the TV as part of a story about the Harding hoopla. I doubt that they could use much of the audio of the supposed tension of the "fans" watching the ice princess duel, since at the next table a bunch of raucous Canadians were screaming at the top of their lungs for Team Canada. Well now, I obviously cant remember 88, or 94 for that matter, i was in Hawaii for 2002, and Florida for 1998 and caught the last two minutes of the goald metal game, so needless to say, i havent seen too much coverage of the Winter Olympics. Moser316
My earliest memory had to be Milwaukee-area native Dan Jansen falling twice during the speed skating event in the 1988 Olympics. If anybody earned his Olympic gold in later years, it had to be him.
DEAD!
My first moment, when Jean-Luc Brassard won gold in the mens moguls in 94', and also the Canadian Biatholan who won double gold at Lillehammer Myriam Bedard. My earliest memory was the Calgary '88 opening ceremony. Favourite moment: 2002 Hockey gold men's and women's. Also the 1994 shootout was great, although Canada lost the shootout, the Forsberg shootout goal was a classic. I saw, I came, I left.

winghaz
My first memory of the Winter Olympics is pretty generic -- just watching the 1964 Games from Innsbruck, Austria. I was going to turn 8 that April and I don't remember anything specific, except for Stein Eriksen doing some of the color commentary. I remember Eriksen doing Schlitz beer commercials, too.My favorite memory: Is there any question? What kind of red-, white- and blue-blooded American who lived through the Miracle on Ice would ever consider anything bigger. In fact, that's my all-time favorite moment in sports.A little bit about what I was doing at the time: I was working as a sportswriter for a small town in northwestern North Dakota, and I was covering a basketball game between two smaller towns. The game, you may note, wasn't televised live -- it began in the late afternoon. Anyway, somebody came up to me and said, "I just heard on the radio. We beat the Russians." My reply was, "Oh, you're full of sh--." But the superintendent of that school came in and said he heard it, too, and he announced it on the loudspeaker. That tiny gym, which was packed, just went nuts. The players, who were warming up, started clapping. It was really wild and really fun.
CZzyzx41
First Olympic memory was the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. That ceremony alone got me hooked on the Olympics.Favorite memories would be the 1996 US Women's Gymnastics team and watching Shaun White tonight. That guy's freakin' amazing.Scariest moments would be the Greg Louganis incident in the 1988 Summer Olympics along with Hermann Meier's crash in 2002. -DanielCheck Out My Podcast! DrBear
I was 7 and vaguely remember the big IXs that were in the opening graphics for the ABC Innsbruck Olympic coverage in 64. But what I really remember first is 68 - Peggy Fleming (who looked even better as she got older) and Jean-Claude Killy. And all in color as we got our first color TV the week before the games started.
