SouthSidePride
With the Cubbies comming to US Comiskular this weekend for a three game set, i was wondering if the runors were true and the Sox are going to bust out the 1906 throwbacks. If they are, should they save them for Sunday? I say wear them today, and continue wearing them until you loose, which, when facing the Cubs, is a three game stretch in throwbacks...I have a vested interest in this because one, I am a Sox fan, and two, I am sick and tired of people asking me about my 1906 'blank' hat. I wish the Sox would just wear them so the hat would be unique instead of weird.Go Sox! HereCometheHawks.net
KJTALBOT
I know I'm about to open a can, but why did you buy that ugly 80's SOX jersey. Just because it's retro, doesn't make it good.I'm not anti-retro, I just judge each jersey on its merits, not it's era.For example, I love the old Orioles threads with the striped sleeves and cartoon bird on the hat. That is all. Everyone loves a roundel.
grmuckrakers
Hey now, those Seaver-era Sox jerseys were sweet! (I have one, too. Bought it at the Baseball Hall of Fame in the late 1980s.)I do think they would have looked better by dropping the number on the pants, and if they wore the road cap at home, too. Well, I was born in 83, and obviously the Sox won the division that year. My whole life I saw clips of the division clincher and photos of the 83 team, so I always sort of looked up to those jerseys. Although I am not old enough to remember seeing them live, I always liked them because they were a part of my childhood. I never evaluated them from a design standpoint. I have a 1983 jersey for that reason. However, our jerseys now are much better.
griffelh
I have one too. For one, I am a huge Seaver fan and I have a Seaver '85 road like the one he won his 300th game in. For a second, I collect "tacky" jerseys. In addition to that one I have a bunch of the Padres brown jerseys, an Astros rainbow and one of the red '75 Indians. SouthSidePride
that jersey is actually a game worn jersey from 2003, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the division championship. I bought it at the White Sox yard sale for 25 bucks, and am going to take the name Almonte off and put my last name on it. The number is 55.To be honest, it is a pretty nice jersey. I obviously think that it was the worst jeresy that the Sox have ever worn, but that is a good thing. It is in no way a monstrosity. Hell I even have the hat to go with it, signed by Bill Melton, the first Sox player to lead the league in HR. HereCometheHawks.net

I really want to collect a replica version of every major league uniform he put on. Or at least a 70s era Mets, Reds, 80s era Mets, White Sox and Red Sox. It's where the 41 in my username comes from.As for the White Sox perhaps it's cliche but I'm a little partial to the Sox logo they used from 1912-1931 and moreso the unis from 1916 & 1917. -DanielCheck Out My Podcast! I'd leave it just as it was worn in the game, instead of putting your own on....but to each their own. BJ Sands
there's something that's always bugged me about these really old throwbacks. watching contreras pitch today, it was kind of odd seeing a black man play in a uniform that was worn when there was segregation. maybe it's me being too PC, but i don't think it's right to "throw back" to an era of segregation.it's just always bothered me. I see where you are coming from, and it is a valid point, and I'm not going to call you a racist or anything, but black and Latino players had every right to be in those uniforms, but they were not allowed to. I does seem a smidge out of place though, mainly because these are the first black players to dawn a 1906 uniform. We've never seen it before, so its different. BBM
Yeah black people shouldn't celebrate 4th of July either, since it was in the era of slavery They're not celebrating the time period or the rules, they're just giving a nod to a past championship team. They definitely have a right to wear these uniforms. I wasn't arguing that they don't.

He's talking about using the jerseys to celebrate a segregated time in baseball being a bad thing, not the black players wearing them being a bad thing. Save the slugalo. How much simpler could I have made that? I hope that NO ONE was accusing me of racism, because my original statement was pretty far from it.Also, I have no problem with teams wearing Negro Leagues uniforms. That celebrates something great and inspiring, not segregation.

FiddySicks
Are those hats like all of the other New Era 59Fifty's, and do they have the MLB logo on the back like the others too? If so, ima have to pick me up one of those. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
