O-PA: Greece Beats U.S.

DEAD!

Recommended Posts

Hey... Argentina will play with USA for the Olympic qualy!

Recently Spain beats Argentina in a thrilling match 75-74.

But, for Argentina the Golden Generation seems finished because of the age and the apparent talent's roof of most of the Argentinean players.

How the hell did we lose? We invented the freakin' sport!

I have lost faith in U.S. Basketball.

Simple, because we've been caught up to by the World.

Time to prepare for the 2010 Worlds, because we're not qualifying for the Olympics -- Argentina gets the Americas' spot.

If you go by that then, Canada should be Olympic Hockey Champions, England should've won the World Cup, and the USA should have won the World Baseball Classic.

But alas none of them are champions in each sport. Its a good thing for the sport of basketball, to have a team other than the USA be succesfull, and it will only help the US improve in the future.

Well, here's the Roster the US needs for FIBA success:

Rip Hamilton

Tyronn Lue

Mike James

Raja Bell

Ben Gordon

Chanucey Billups

Bruce Bowen

Jameer Nelson

Charlie Bell

Kyle Korver

Bobby Simmons

Matt Bonner

You figure out why.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

I wouldn't take any of those.

Why not put up our best college players?

Eh, the Greece team has been together for years and years. The USA team has been together for 2 months and has been changing it's roster and who plays with who the entire time. The team never had too much of a chance to develop chemistry, particularly defensively. I put this one on Coach K in that regard.

Oh well, I can't complain too much. The tournament was a resounding success for Carmelo Anthony, who was sooo underrated last year. He's going to tear the NBA apart this upcoming year.

They're the 12-best American 3 point shooters in the NBA. FIBA is more about that than anything else... save the pick and roll. Perhaps we should take out Barbosa and Nash, and just send the Phoenix Suns... B)

Though, we couldn't go wrong by just sending Team USA to the local gym and make them shoot 100,000 free throws. 11th out of 24 teams. Yikes.

I agree with that, but another factor was that the team wasn't given enough time to adapt to international rules, let alone develop chemistry.

Although there's honestly no excuse for a whole group of millionaire athletes losing in international play, where the other teams MAYBE have 2-3 NBA-caliber players on the roster.

Actually it's not true that Argentina took our spot in Bejing(as per This link to TheAustralian.News.Com)

Should US players fail to reach the Americas final next year, they would still have a path to Beijing, although it would be a difficult one.

A Venezuela failure would require a top-three finish at a last-chance qualifying tournament in July of 2008 - barely two weeks after the NBA Finals and six weeks before the Beijing Olympics.

Thankfully, the Tourny of the Americas isn't for another year so that should give the team plenty of time to mesh...

Oh, wait... You mean they have to play the 06-07 NBA Season? So much for team chemistry.

As for the loss, this has become a broken record: How can our best players act like they were players on the other nation in a '92 Dream Team beatdown when it comes to stopping a simple fundemental play like the Pick and Roll? Also, how about selecting people who can shoot for three. If three point shooting is a key component of being competitive in FIBA play, then get those kind of players.

It's too bad coach rat-face couldn't bring home the gold either. All those effusive articles stating how all it took was THE GREATEST BASKETBALL COACH EVER (I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth just associating the phrase with Krzyzewski) to right the ship for USA Basketball will now need to go into mothalls.

To be fair, this is the first mens' senior national team fielded since the push to have players commit to three years' service. Was this really supposed to be turned around overnight? Not even Coach K could pull it off.

Maybe the NBA should just adopt the international rules and have the NBA referees call the game like their FIBA counterparts. If USA Basketball was that concerned over world domination of the sport, such changes would be implemented.
