Very nice by both of you. Wanna make full concepts? I'm sure they'd be awesome.

You see, thats the thing. When you hit the nail dead on the head like this theres really no need to make a full concept. A wordmark MAYBE, but even that may be taking it too far. Its like an awesome movie. Its way to easy to fu*k it up with a crappy sequel.

Not saying a full package from these guys would be crappy, but i think you get waht im saying.

Sheebus! I was not expecting this kind of response. I did it at 2 o'clock in the morning when I couldn't sleep. I don't even do that much pencil work with logos anymore. It's just that since I lost Illustrator about a year and half ago, I haven't really had anything else to work with, so I just kinda stopped. But with this I just figured what the hey. So yeah I scanned in on my boss's scanner here at the ballpark (Hammons Field, where I work), did a quick "paint by numbers" kinda thing to get a visual of the color layout of how it would looked, and posted it just hoping to get a few critiques, let it die, and then someday when I got Illustrator again, hopefully clean it up, and maybe get a few more critiques. But thanks to StPatty's clean up, it went into full on "Kick @$$" mode and look at it now. I really do wanna do a full package with this, but I may take my time, to make sure it goes right and I don't do an overkill with it.

But thanks for all the comments. I've only did a handful of concepts (you can tryand search for them and see) before I lost Illustrator. Never thought my best one would come out of a pencil and notebook paper at 2am. ^_^

Now I'm confused.

I thought the team was named after a snake, not an alligator. Because that is what the my trained eye first saw. Flesh it out a little more and make it look like a snake and you are on you way to an OK concept.

(It looks like an alligator finishing off a fish for dinner)

Great logo by the way. I'd buy a hat with that logo on it.

I wouldn't say alligator, but I think the mouth is a little too "pointy" for lack of a better term. Perhaps a more rounded bottom jaw could get it back to snake shape. I was thinking about other styles of A's to use-more angular, etc., but too much could be distracting.

I like the concept- looks really good.

Wow -- this is one of the best concepts I've seen here. I generally like the individual design elements of the new D-Backs uniforms (though the execution of those elements on the actual unis is in many cases poor). But this puts the real new D-Backs look to shame.

And no, the snake doesn't look anything like an alligator. I've watched enough Crocodile Hunter in my day to be pretty sure that gators and crocs don't have long, thin, tubular necks that can stand up vertically while their heads remain fully horizontal -- you know, like snakes do -- nor diamond patterns on their backs. And that's an awfully short snout for a gator or a croc. I don't know from snakes enough to say whether this is really as awesome a snake as it looks like to me, but an alligator it ain't.

My only quibble on this would be the red snake elements. In the abstract, I like the contrasting eyes and tongue. But I don't like how the red tongue looks on a red background. I think the tongue needs to be black, because this logo absolutely needs to look great on red. There's something about the placement and shape of the tongue that, when it's red, looks to me more like the snake has just blown a bit of the A away, like the Big Bad Wolf huffing and puffing, than it looks like his tongue. The eye will probably look great either way.

Top notch. This is much better then an alternate or a bp logo. The current "A" (a recoloured hold-over from the last D'Backs set) doesn't fit in with the scheme. This does. This should be the D'Backs' official "A", no questions asked. Great job guys.

I actually see where Tom (if that is indeed him) is coming from with is remark about the alligator finishing off the fish, (though I'd contend that it would be a crocodile, not a gator, but that doesn't matter.)

I do think that it looks like a snake and not a gator / croc, but the "tongue" certainly looks like the tail-end of a fish being sucked down, not something shooting out.

I'm honestly not sure what advice to give to fix this, but whenever I look at this otherwise great logo, I just see a fish getting swallowed.

Sorry.
