Official 2007 NFL season thread

The Lions are leading the NFL in takeaways(20), rather than turnovers this season, scoring 69 points off those takeaways. So much for arguably the worst D in the NFL coming into the season.

(dance)

I'm not expecting playoffs, but, man, this team is surprising the hell out of me. 10 wins might actually be possible.

And they're the only other team in the NFC North with a prayer of challenging the Packers. The Bears have fallen back to earth - hard - and the Vikings are squarely in their familiar zone somewhere between mediocre and :censored: ing awful.

It also means the first Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit in many years that's actually meaningful for both teams.

In today's Atlanta paper, coach Bobby Petrino discussed the Falcons' need to contain Frank Gore this Sunday. He said, "The first thing we have to do is stop 24."

Their plan would probably work out better if Gore actually wore 24. B)

Not like any of us who can't go to the game will be able to witness it. Check the link in my sig.

Or if you are lazy, the sellout streak in Atlanta is over. The game's blacked out. I can't go because this is the weekend that 2 of my teachers assigned 2 10-page papers. Awesome weekend this is turning out to be.

Join the club.

Although I didn't think that the Falcons problems were such that the fans would stop buying tickets as a way to express their displeasure with the Falcons front office.

Well, from what I can hear, the Dome is back to the old days...Half full Dome...tsk tsk tsk. I'll be there next time since I'm writing a paper. But wow, it's like the 2nd half of 1999 all over again.

The Greatest Show on Turf has officially migrated North to Detroit. That is all.

EDIT-The Gunslinger lives. Wow on that last TD pass.

Detroit game is crazy. I can't really say it's a great game, because in my opinion, a great game is a battle for field position, and a battle for the last posession, but today the Lions are destroying the Broncos. Amen. The Lions finally have something going for them. I'd have to say this is a very exciting game. What will the Lions do next?! Shut 'em out Lions!

I'd have to say I learned something new while watching this game, I did not know that the defense could get called for delay of game. I heard the announcer say if a defense-man kicks the ball, it is a defensive delay of game. I never knew that.

Who would have thought 2 NFL records would be set in the SD-Min game? Cromartie's 109-yard return and Adrian's 296 yards rushing. '

And BTW, that makes 3 TDs in 2 weeks for Cromartie...he recovered a fumble and returned an INT last week vs. Houston.

Well, it's time to just reitterate that Adrian Peterson is, in fact, God.

296 yards rushing = Record

2nd 200+ Rushing yard game = Rookie Record

over 1000 yards rushing alread, on pace to break Dickerson's rushing record (just over 1,800)

You're right. I was originally all upset because, in any other year, Marshawn Lynch would be the Rookie of the Year. But, you know, Adrian Peterson is having the best rookie season IN THE HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS.

(Actually, several -- notably basketball players -- have had better, but still. Hyperbole is fun.)

EDIT: Bills win! Big-time!

This is why I desparately wanted the Packers to trade up for the Lead Dog. It would've been a big jump up to get him, but I'd gladly trade their #1 (used on DT Justin Harrell, or as my dad calls him, who?), and their #2 (Brandon Jackson, RB, currently doing jack:censored:), and whatever else we'd have needed to give up.

Guess what, guys, halfway through the season and Detroit is 6-2. That ten win prediction isn't looking completely crazy right now, as 4-4 the rest of the way will get them there. They nearly got a shutout, but gave up a TD late in the fourth. (Denver hasn't been shut out since '92, so I was really hoping for it. Oh well.) Dang packers though, who seem to somehow win every week, like LSU has lately. Detroit can't seem to gain ground on the packers, but they play on Thanksgiving, so we will see what happens.
