Are the Cubs going to wear a 100th anniversary logo this season?

Something like "Baseball's First Dynasty"?

(It wasn't, but it was the first dynasty of the NL/AL era.)

I think they should do it.

Somehow I don't think the Cubs will wear a patch honoring that. It brings up some rather unpleasant thoughts and memories.

That would be like a patch honoring the Joe Theisman leg-breaking play's anniversary or the Rays wearing a patch honoring their founding....oh, wait....they actually did that.

How about "A Century of Futility and Heartbreak"?

I suspect it's not something they want to commemorate.

I'm with you. A Championship Centennial patch would be awesome. It works on so many levels. First, there's the fact that it's a centennial anniversary of a memorable championship. Then there's the degree to which the Cubs identity is built around the long drought since that last championship. There would be a certain "Screw you, Boston, you don't know from suffering like we do" aspect. And then there would be the provocative nature of it, almost daring the team to finally put it together and bookend the century of Cubbies catastrophe with another championship. It doesn't have to be all about the Cubs sucking -- there is a great history there, and it's worth celebrating.

And while I'm at it, I'll say, yes, the Nats should wear a centennial patch in 2024 if they haven't brought a championship to Washington in the meantime. This isn't just about picking on the Cubs; any team that goes 100 years since its last championship probably ought to celebrate the anniversary and have fun with it. This is supposed to be a game; it's not politics, where you get ahead by pretending bad stuff hasn't happened.

The Cubs already do have an anniversary logo...

Note the "C" on their caps. People think that stands for "Chicago" or "Cubs." Actually it stands for "Century" -- as in a Century of Futility.

They have to win one sometime. If the Red Sox could do it, so can the Cubs...

A patch/logo would be a bit much, but they could wear 1908 throwback uniforms a few times this season.

In 2006 the White Sox wore 1906 throwback uniforms a few times to honor that championship, so it's not like commemorating 100 years since a title hasn't been done before. Although that wasn't the Sox most recent championship.

What do you think 'C' is in Roman Numerals?

Actually, I think they may be more of an insult to the Cubs, associating them with Bonds.
