Baseball Playoff Uni observations

I noticed something today by watching the Phillies/Brewers game, and I thought of a useless fact I wanted to share with everyone. There are only 6 teams in MLB that do not wear the name of their city on their road uniforms. 4 of them are in the playoffs this year. Here are the teams:

Rays

Angels

Brewers

Phillies

Orioles

Cardinals

Pretty interesting huh? I was watching the game in the restaurant and my wife kept asking me why I was writing city names on a napkin. I know, I watch way too much baseball. Just thought I would share this little tidbit with you.

Yep, I'll do the exact same thing from time to time. And no, you don't watch too much baseball. You can never watch too much baseball :)

Now to the actual fact, thats really a great observation. I noticed today for the first time that the Brewers didn't have the city name on their roads. I know that I knew that, but actually seeing it was strange.

You're right, you can NEVER watch too much baseball! I knew about the Brewers earlier this year when i was looking at their uniforms for my MLB 2028 project, and one thing I wanted to make sure of in that project was to put all of the cities on the front of road jerseys. But it just hit me tonight how many playoff teams this year are like that when I was watching two of those teams play each other tonight.

The Cubs and White Sox could end up not wearing the city name on their road unis in the playoffs, depending on if they stick with the alts.

I'm guessing the Sox will go gray tonight, since they seem to switch after a loss. The Cubs might have to survive past Saturday because I think Harden likes the blues on the road.

And I agree that you can never watch too much baseball (although the last two nights might be the closest I've been to questioning that).

Not unrelatedly, assuming Milwaukee wears home whites and loses, that series will have passed with both teams wearing a different uniform in each game. Which reminds me, is there a series possible where both teams (assuming they only wear game uniforms) would wear all possible uniforms and only wear two? Rays/Dodgers is the only one I can think of...

You are correct that Rays-Dodgers would be the only hope for that. Phillies would have been a possibility before this season.

I'm just thankful the Red Sox have never busted out the red jersey for the playoffs. As much as I like it on the ocassional Saturday home matinee (which is typically when they wear them), I think it just lacks the intensity connected to postseason baseball...if that makes any iota of sense at all.

I assume you mean "location" instead of "city" as i was going to bring up Minnesota, Florida and Texas.

You are correct, sir.

Any shot at Angels vests or alt reds tonight?

Not to mention that several of the teams are wearing the CoolBase jerseys.

Yeah, would someone care to explain the use of the CoolBase jersey when its in the 60s? Superstition?

From what I heard the last 2 years, the teams' equipment managers put the doubleknits into storage at some point during the summer when they get the COOLBASE set. If the players don't request the change to the doubleknits, or if the equipment manager doesn't bother to make the effort, the team will stick with COOLBASE. That's why you end up seeing teams wearing both jerseys. Go look at pics from the 2006 World Series. It was very noticeable with the Tigers and Cards both wearing both styles. Like Wainwright in COOLBASE and Pujols in doubleknits, for example.

(spelling edit)

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!
