TFoA
Hard time believing Gregg Zaun would be their starting catcher. A fine backup, though, like a Henry Blanco.According to their beat writer, Brewers are "assuring" him that he'll be the starter. And with Mike Rivera over there, they've basically got 2 backup-quality catchers. Don't see what choice they have, other than getting a higher-quality catcher through FA or trade, which is highly unlikely for the Brewers, IMO. It's probably a stopgap until they get their minor leaguers ready for the show. Some Brewers fans are saying its an upgrade simply because Jason Kendall is gone, but they're almost the same offensively so it's basically a push. Also, the Braves offered arby to Soriano and Gonzalez while fully expecting them to deny it. Gonzo definitely will deny it, Soriano is reportedly mulling it over. It'd be pretty dumb for him to accept it, he'd be taking himself off of the market and the Braves couldn't trade him until June. Guessing this is just a ploy to raise his price.
epper
Apparently Jason Bay really wants the Mariners to sign him.I'd love to see J-Bay in Seattle. If there's any outfield that can absorb his defensive inefficiencies, its the M's with Gutierrez and Ichiro.

I hope someone else throws more cash at him...I don't. "Bring him home, Omar!" Also, "word on the street" is that Rafael Soriano will indeed accept arbitration. Although this gives the Braves a damn good bullpen now, it's :censored:ty because this throws a huge wrench into the Braves offseason plans. Plans that included making room (coughtradingdereklowecough) for spending money that they wouldn't have to use paying Rafael Soriano. Now they're gonna have to pay him something, and now Frank Wren's job just got a little bit harder for the offseason. Oy, indeed.
STL_Ian
Cards have apparently reached an agreement with Brad Penny for $7.5M base. I think they grossly overpaid, but I guess I'll reserve full judgement 'til he's thrown some games. Also, apparently only 3 players have accepted arbitration: Soriano, Betancourt, and Pavano. TFoA
Brewers on the verge of signing SP Randy WolfThis would fill a need for them, since last season their pitching (aside from a few exceptions) was basically just throwing the ball at or near the strike zone and hoping for the best. JayJaxon
Soriano did accept. He will be a Brave in 2010. Wren knows that they can't make the playoffs without a bat. He will figure something out.

Waffles
I love this trade for the Yankees. They give up two spare arms and a guy who COULD be a Curtis Granderson-caliber player someday for someone who IS Curtis Granderson.
