Division 1 College Conference Realignment

OK, someone explain to me why the WAC, which needs a football school to stay under FBS standards (which states that you need 8 football playing schools to remain in the FBS or else you won't count.. in an odd way), wants Texas-Arlington, who doesn't have football and won't have it for the time being.

I have an idea: Stop trying to poach the Southland Conference of it's members and aim for someone else. If you have to, add Cal State Bakersfield and hope that either them, Denver or Seattle wants to start football up (which is basically a no-chance-in-hell plan).

Or you can always ask Houston Baptist. They want to play football and they need a new home after the Great West implodes.

The only reason that could possilby make sense is if UT-Arltington starts a football program, the Mavericks could called Cowboys Stadium a possible temporary home

supposidly for LTech and NMST to stay they needed to invite Southern schools and by doing so they would vote for Montana and Montana St. as members. Therefore, everyone is happy. IDK how true it is, but after the 2011 football season expect Montana and Montana St. invites.

Off-topic: how far is Cowboys Stadium from the UT-Arlington campus?

It is under 3 miles from campus.

They have to look long term and to have markets in which people are in have to be their only saving grace when it comes to getting cable rights fees. Even is UT-A is a blip in the Metroplex radar, the WAC will have teams in Seattle, Denver, San Antonio, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and San Jose. Plus, the Metroplex has lots of apathy. Even after a decade, TCU has issues gaining inroads in Dallas and Collin Counies and vice versa for SMU in Tarrant County. Now UT-A is stuck in the middle next to the Cowboys and Rangers.

Football will return, then they have to think about the other women's sports to add as well.

So...since rumors keep flying that Texas A&M is going to bail for the SEC with or without Oklahoma and the Pac-12 may yet have another raid on tap for the rump 12...

Over under on when the Big 12 just completely flies apart: 2013.

This has been very hot today, but there are some inconsistencies. It started on Twitter, then went to radio, specifically Finebaum.

Brent Zwerneman, who works for both the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News has been very different than the reports from Aubrey Bloom.

Bloom is a recent aTm grad, a former Bleacher report correspondent, and now works for a blog called Gigem247.com. Bloom went on Finebaum today (link) and said that:

aTm would go alone for 2012 and the SEC would be 13 teams.

They were both invited to the WAC already. They both declined.

No they rejected the "commissions" to come and view the campuses. The word back in June was that they would get formal invites and accept after the 2011 football season.

Former Yell Leader and current Texas Governor, Rick Perry comments on yesterday's flood of rumors of aTm to the SEC.

"I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."

Florida State and Texas A&M going to the SEC is getting more and more steam, according to Tomahawk Nation and Warchant.

TAMU is a done deal, will be announced August 22nd. FSU is being talked about and sources say they would accept, pending an offer. However, look out for Florida to veto that move.

I see Virginia Tech as a more likely candidate.

Florida alone doesn't get a veto. Florida needs to convince 3 other schools to say no. That said, assuming Virginia's legislature doesn't throw up roadblocks, Tech bailing on the ACC wouldn't be too surprising.

Sporting News is reporting that if TAMU goes VT or Missouri are the favorites if Oklahoma doesn't jump with A&M.

As for the FSU rumors, I would imagine there are a few ACC schools that would jump ship at this point. They signed their new TV deal a year too soon before Comcast/NBC basically entered the picture. Afterwards the Pac-12 got a much bigger contract than them and even the Big East could trump them in TV dollars. I don't see the ACC having the leadership to be proactive in this mess to avoid. If Va Tech or FSU jump ship I hope the Maryland Big 10 rumors that were around last year were true and the B1G looks a MD as a reaction move.

Oh, I know that. Florida would convince other schools to join in resisting, it has happened in the past.

I just don't want this thing to get out of control (adding 4 instead of 2, causing a shift in divisions). No need to mess up a great thing.

The only way Oklahoma would financially compete with Texas would be to jump to the SEC if they were given the invite. Texas A&M and Oklahoma would be great additions for the SEC.

After that, I'm not so sure any other additions make the SEC that much better. They certainly don't gain much by adding Virginia Tech or West Virginia or South Florida. Not so sure about Missouri, either. May as well take Oklahoma State along with Oklahoma, and maybe Florida State. No way expansion stops at one team, and likely doesn't stop at two either.

And yeah....the Big XII will be gone by 2014, and if not...relegated to WAC-status.

Adding Virginia Tech as a 14 or 16th team would allow the SEC to encroach on the DC market. Similar with Missouri for St. Louis and Kansas City. Them adding FSU would be to try to cut into the Gators recruiting.

But yea the Big XII is doomed. And some other conference (Big East or ACC) may be left to Mountain West status.
