dfwabel
Rangers fans, time will tell to determine when that team is sold.Hicks and Creditors at Impass on Team SaleFrom the story:The pending sale of the Texas Rangers has become a deepening standoff between the owner of the team, who says he has lost enough money on the franchise and insists on keeping some of the proceeds from its sale, and creditors, who say they stand to lose many millions even if his full amount is turned over to them. The deal was first announced in January and included the team, the lease on its ballpark in Arlington and most of the property around the stadium. The sale, which was expected to close by opening day, is believed to be valued around $575 million. But it could be pushed back several more weeks because of a dispute between creditors and Hicks along with the Hicks Sports Group, which owns the Rangers and the N.H.L.?s Dallas Stars. The lenders, led by Monarch Alternative Capital, want all of the $300 million or so that Hicks would get from the sale of the Rangers. Hicks is offering to hand over about $270 million. Some lenders also believe that other bidders might be willing to pay more money for the club, but Greenberg?s group has exclusive rights to work out a sale.Still, the $30 million gap is proving to be significant. Stung by the global credit crisis, the Hicks Sports Group stopped paying the interest on its $525 million in debt in March 2009. After failing to negotiate new terms with his bankers, Hicks tried to sell a minority stake in the Rangers. When that failed, he agreed to sell a controlling interest.Lisa LeMaster, who represents the Hicks Sports Group, said in a statement that the group ?won?t put any more money on the table.??Tom Hicks, personally, loaned H.S.G. over $80 million to support the teams over the last two years,? LeMaster said. ?The so-called gap will have to be resolved by the lenders, M.L.B. and the representatives of the selected local ownership group.?But even if Hicks hands over his entire $300 million payout, his creditors say they still stand to lose about $100 million.?It?s not like the lenders are being greedy and grabbing every cent,? said a banker who asked not to be named because negotiations were under way. ?We?re trying to limit our losses.? The sale issue will probably be seen with the Stars, but not Liverpool as they are not apart of Hicks Sports Group.
WJMorris3
I'm impressed - it took the Rockies just 18 seasons to match the number of no-hitters the Mets have thrown in 49 seasons.

njmeadowlanders
Of the 7,655 regular season games the Mets have ever played, only 3 were longer than today's 20 inning 2-1 win @ St. Louis: A 4-3 loss to STL in 25 @ Shea on 9/11/74 (longest game in MLB history), a 1-0 loss to HOU in 24 @ The Astrodome on 4/15/68, and an 8-6 loss to SF in 23 @ Shea on 5/31/64. The 6:53 to play it was 2nd only to that 5/31/64 game which took 7:23.And that's 7,655 games w/o a no-hitter. Now the Rockies are scratched off the list... The only Fosse I remember from the 70's was Ray Fosse. He was a catcher with Cleveland and Oakland. Ray Fosse never pitched for The Mets and he certainly never pitched a no-hitter for them. You might want to stick to college foo...uh never mind. OK, I don't know what to tell you at this point.

Cujo
ESPN making a ridiculously huge deal of this 20 inning game. It was a long, boring, never-ending baseball game. This sort of thing happens in San Diego every year and we never hear about it. ....And are you kidding me, it was the lead on tonight's SportsCenter -- over Jimenez's no-hitter!! This sort of thing happens in San Diego every year and we never hear about it. ....And are you kidding me, it was the lead on tonight's SportsCenter -- over Jimenez's no-hitter!! I won't watch because I'm too pissed and don't want to be reminded, but I'll agree. The first about 9-innings were brilliantly pitched, so if you appreciate that (I do), that's good baseball. But the second half of the game was utter crap. Tons of missed opportunities, poor hitting, and at least on one side, bad managing. It was kinda funny that the Cardinals had position players pitching and starting pitchers in the outfield, but beyond that, it wasn't a special game.It was a game that took 20 innings because neither team played well enough to win it. cmm
Never seen a game managed quite so badly by La Russa as he has today. Hall of Famer, but don't know what he's doing today.Saving your rotation is one thing. Saving the arm of an infielder who can throw strikes in favor of an outfielder who can't? Absurd. I know it's ridiculous to be so upset about which position player was chosen to pitch, but that's just how bad his decision was.Not to mention that by double-switching Holliday out of the game in the 11th, the Mets got to walk Pujols to face pitchers in some big spots.A fun game to watch, though. The Mets hadn't played in a game that crazy in a long time.

infrared41
Ray Fosse's no-hitter for the Mets makes his All-Star Game collision with Pete Rose even more inexplicable.I think you mean Pete Rose's collision with Ray Fosse. Using any word that depicts action to describe Fosse's participation in that play is a gross overstatement of the facts. Still, it is pretty remarkable that Fosse's shoulder recovered to the point that he was able to pitch a no-hitter for The Mets. Kinda like a bizarro Rick Ankiel. BrySmalls
Tank's Free Agent, Jason Marquis, to start today's game gave up 4 hits, 1 walk, hit 2 batters, and 4 runs without recording an out against the Brewers. He left with the bases loaded.Once he's DFA'd, the Mess can have him.Edit: It is now 10-0 Brewers still in the Top of the 1st.
