Well, the "always reliable" wikipedia has the possible scenarios laid out:US def. Algeria = US is in. No matter what.US draws, have to rely on goal differential based on what happens between England & Slovenia.US loses, it's over.As far as England is concerned, they need to win and get help:England def. Slovenia + US def. Algeria = USA & England advance, only situation where USA could potentially win the group.England def. Slovenia + US draw = Possible advancement by goal differentialEngland draw + US win = go homeOf course, there's a possibility where all 4 teams draw & England & US are tied on goal differential & goals scored, which means that it's drawing of lots timeBut of course, all of this can be put to moot if the US just adopts the Al Davis mentality of "JUST WIN, BABY" and put themselves into the next round. A South Africa 3-0 victory over France and a Uruguay 2-0 victory over Mexico would be one way they can get in.All that said, they need to win big and have Mexico lose big to get through.
