Hell, Boise State has done tri-color crowds before.

Wait, their student section is all the way up there? That sucks.

I'm thinking that might change with the upcoming expansion of Bronco Stadium, which is supposed to look like this:

Boise_State_Stadium_Expansion.gif

Sheer awesomeness, and it's far easier on the eyes than TCU's clunky-looking proposal for Amon G. Carter:

Thus why I'm glad that the planned expansion for Arizona Stadium won't affect the Zona Zoo.

I don't have much info besides the fact that they're going to build up the north end zone into actual seats instead of free-standing bleachers. It'll have office space for the program inside, and they're putting in a new video board in the south stands (the 3rd largest in the NCAA, 2nd largest if you only count college exclusive stadiums) to replace the one currently in the north stands. The end zone expansion is still a few years off, but the new video board will be in place for this coming season.

.... clunky-looking?

That "proposal" (which is actually being built NOW) looks like this for traditional purposes, with a mix of mondernization. That's why it's nick-named the Camden Yards of College Football.

I'd rather have a modern stadium that honors its 1930's past than a stadium with a gimmick field....

All of which are much, much cooler than a boring, uninspired BFBS.

But in most cases, the players don't get in on the act, too, and that's seemingly where a lot of the BFBS desires is coming from - the players want something different. Sure, like in the case of Arizona, you can wear an alternate colored jersey based on your secondary color, but for some programs that's either not going to look good, or just isn't possible. If, say, Rutgers wants to mix it up a bit, what options do they have? Does anybody really want to see a gold Florida State alternate?

And yes, there's the throwback route, but that doesn't involve the fans at all, and I can't imagine kids who have no ties to an era that's being thrown back to care at all about throwbacks.

I wouldn't mind that. Maybe bring back the garnet pants in combination with it. I'm not so sure gold-gold-gold would work.

Nike has made gold FSU fashion jerseys, but I think Jimbo is set on the traditional garnet and white jerseys, with gold pants for both (though I think the garnet pants are pretty solid).

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I think TCU's expansion looks good and not clunky. It should be about done right? I know that's why they moved the Armed Forces bowl to SMU so they could get started earlier on the construction. I'm really surprised Boise's student section isn't right behind the team or in the end zones like other stadiums.

I just think it looks too old-timey and anachronistic for such a "modern" program. The new stadium doesn't fit the program's image as trendy outsider at all, IMO. But that's just me. Meanwhile, Boise State got it right - the design reminds me a little bit of Autzen Stadium mixed with Reser Stadium. It's an aesthetic that works with the location and the program's image.

I also don't really like the looks of that yellow brick building from the rendering, but it might look better in real life.

BTW, who's calling the new Amon G. Carter "the Camden Yards of college football"? TCU fans?

Also, the blue turf could plausibly have been called a gimmick in the '80s when it was introduced. Now, though, it's been used for so long that it has become a tradition instead of a gimmick.

I don't see TCU as a trendy outsider since they will be moving into the Big East and they actually have a winning tradition but were shut out of the Big XII by other schools. I was really surprised the Big XII didn't try grabbing TCU and maybe even Boise State after Colorado and Nebraska split. I think both schools would have made the league even better as far as competition since Boise has shown they can take on the big boys. But now they'll move into a new league and dominate it since TCU is no longer there

Ok, I'm going to be that guy.

Don't Boise State and TCU have trouble filling their stadia now? Why are they expanding capacity?

Texas would have never allowed TCU to enter the Big 12. They already have to contend with TAMU, TT, and Baylor with recruiting. Adding yet another Texas school with more recent success than those other three would be a killer.

Don't Boise State and TCU have trouble filling their stadia now? Why are they expanding capacity?

Recruiting purposes, keeping the boosters happy, and attracting more exposure to the program would be my guess.

Also, I can't speak for TCU but I think Boise State is experiencing "Atlanta Braves Syndrome." Much like Braves fans began to assume that their team would make it past the first round of the playoffs and stopped showing up to the games, many Broncos fans just assume Boise is going to win at home, since home losses have been ridiculously rare over the past decade. A shiny new renovation might bring those fans back into the fold.

It's more like "Georgia Tech Syndrome": "We know we aren't going to fill the joint, but our opponents with bigger followings and travelling fans (such as Georgia) will fill the place with their fans once every two years, so it makes a ton of financial sense!"

It's all about trying to convince opposing schools to come play there, by 'offering' more tickets. Never mind that no matter how big the venue is, that people still aren't going to waste money on going to Boise when much more attractive schools/cities are around.

There's some truth to that, too. But I think we're both right. If fans didn't automatically assume "we're at home, we're going to win" and decide not to go to the games, Boise wouldn't have to depend on visiting fanbases so much.

I don't like it but hopefully the renovation can fix that attitude.
