Stephen Garcia dismissed from South Carolina

Who's going to be the Gamecocks starting QB?

Connor Shaw. Interesting move by USC.

South Carolina has a 17 strike policy.

No subpoena power = rules are unenforceable.

From the NCAA (the last sentence is important):

After conducting more than 80 interviews, the NCAA has concluded its investigation into Auburn University. The NCAA enforcement staff is committed to a fair and thorough investigative process. As such, any allegations of major rules violations must meet a burden of proof, which is a higher standard than rampant public speculation online and in the media. The allegations must be based on credible and persuasive information and includes a good-faith belief that the Committee on Infractions could make a finding. As with any case, should the enforcement staff become aware of additional credible information, it will review the information to determine whether further investigation is warranted.

So Cam gets cleared, he's getting paid in the NFL and looks to be on his way to a Rookie of the Year award? Lawd, Cam's just winning all over the place (except on the field, lately...).

Anyways, I'm sure that this is a load off for Auburn fans. That cloud is no longer over the program for the time being.

Ok, I'm just curious, how did Tyron Mathieu get the name The honey badger? I know it's a reference to a popular youtube video ("The honey badger don't care, he takes what he wants" etc.), but the name doesn't make sense. I really hope this isn't a case of the regular populace misusing memes again.

So a week after you were told that your self-appointed nickname to LaMichael James has been nationally given to a player on a team which your beloved Oregon ducks lost to, you are still bent out of shape? Plus, didn't Russel Westbrook get that nickname very early in 2011 from OKC Thunder fans?

From Sept. 27

Because he takes the ball from the other team when he wants? And doesn't care if anyone on other teams hate him.

Makes more sense for him than LMJ.

I guess that sort of makes sense. Don't get me wrong, Mathieu is a bad ass. But James dislocated his elbow (badly), and popped it back into place before the trainers got there, joked with the media afterword, and he still has a chance that he'll play Saturday (although it's highly unluckily). I liken that to the scene where the honey badger is attacked by the cobra, and just gets right back up. I guess honey badger does fit Mathieu in a way though, but what James did was one of the most badass things I've seen a player do. He needs some sort of nickname (hell, De Thomas has "the black mamba"). How about the Atomic Bomb? He's the most explosive back in the country after all.

It's pretty self-explainatory, like someone said, he takes what he wants. He leads the SEC in forced and recovered fumbles and he's ranked nationally in the top 5 in both categories. Not only that, but he's compared to the honey badger because with both, their size doesn't stop them from getting what they want. Not really sure why you think the name is fitting for LMJ because honestly it really doesn't make sense for him at all either.

This is why it's good to read the posts above yours.

Because LMJ is an Oregon player and Mathieu isn't.

I just want him to have some sort of nickname. God knows he's earned it. I'll give him the name The Atomic Bomb, because of how explosive he is! Get it? Explosive! Anyone....no? Ok sorry.

I did and you answer you're own question in your own post.

Mathieu was given the nickname right before the West Virginia game, before LMJ dislocated his arm and then it blew up, he's given it because of his takeaways and his ability to strip the ball, like in this game:

He takes what he wants. Maybe if LMJ dislocated his arm a few weeks earlier, we'd have a different story.

How foolish of me.

At the time I posted the original statement (about LaMichael being the Honey Badger), I had no idea he had that nickname. I thought I was being clever (and I ended up failing miserably).
