Lincecum gets $35M for two years from #SFGiants, according to source.

LOL the Giants just love overpaying their players. It's such a sentimental franchise. Plus, they get off easy this way: when people complain that they don't go after the big name free agents, they can just say they tied up all the money in bringing back the old players.

On a nice note, at least my Lincecum jersey won't become outdated.

Yeah I'm STUNNED by this move. My heart loves it because he was such a big part of the two championship runs, but my head says it's absolutely crazy. $17.5 Million a year for a guy who's struggled as bad as he has? Why? What're they gonna do next? Pick up Zito's option?

And you're right. They better not use this as an excuse when they don't pay to get the bat they desperately need.

That contract just sounds stupid. Lincecum hasn't been Big Time Timmy Jim since, when, 2011? Certainly the last two years have shown a decline in performance and velocity, and to pay him $17.5M per is almost outrageous sounding.

Yep.

But again, there are a handful of guys who are injured or just underperforming (or a combo) and left off the roster that were around in 2011. Chris Carpenter, Rafael Furcal, Jason Motte, Jaime Garcia, Jake Westbrook, and Fernando Salas.

HAHAHAHA. That dude is still in the Major Leagues? I don't even remember hearing his name since the 2011 World Series.

Well, that's because you barely have. He was hurt much of last season playing only 121 games including his last on August 30. And he didn't play at all this season undergoing Tommy John surgery. In fact, he probably hasn't even been with the team, unlike all the others I mentioned.

That's because it is stupid. The bright side for Giants fans is that it's only a two year deal. Does anyone know if that's guaranteed money? It may be full of incentives or something. I just can't imagine dropping that kind of money on present day Tim Lincecum.

Not sure they had much of a choice. The SF farm system of pitchers is average to below average; so in committing only $35M over two years to Lincicum is the better option than to give $100+M over 5 for a free agent arm (in a not so deep FA class), who will have to adjust to ATT Park, since that did not really work with Zito and I'm not sure that they have the talent to trade for David Price who is a year younger.

I bet if you look across all of baseball you'd see similar numbers. 1 or 2 guys still playing for the same team 9 years later.

Its crazier to see how many people are still on the roster from each of their last championships:

St. Louis (2011): 7 players remain

Boston (2007): 5 players remain

THAT is crazy. Even with the fluidity of bullpens, it's crazy that 18 players from that team are gone two years later.

Yep.

Oh, yeah. Rafael Furcal. I forgot he was still a thing.

EDIT: Kramerica agrees

Kozma is terrible. He always seems to make the biggest mistakes at the worst possible times.

EDIT: and Wainright, my God. What a terrible game from the Cards to far.

Holy crap. If Wainright and Kozma are blowing water right now, then this just proves how bad and lucky the Dodgers really were.

No it doesn't. It proves maybe they're having a bad game, maybe the Red Sox are having a good game, and more likely, some combination of the two. It has nothing to do with the Dodgers.

Just a bad baseball game tonight from the St. Louis perspective.

Umps got a lot of balls and strikes wrong. Then Red Sox hit a lot of baseballs. And the Cardinals forgot how to field. Then the ump got a call brutally wrong. Then the umps illegally got the call right (which is an odd but accurate description). Then the Red Sox hit the baseball some more. Then the Cardinals forgot how to field some more. Then the Red Sox hit the baseball some more. Then the Cardinals wasted their opportunities. Then nothing. Then the Cardinals forgot how to field again again. Then the Red Sox hit some baseballs. And now some more nothing that will probably see use through to the end.

Good thing it only counts as one game.

By the way, Pete Kozma is what he is. He's an awful hitting, good fielding shortstop. He's not a mistake-free shortstop, obviously. But lest we forget he made a couple of potentially series saving plays in the NLCS. Can't just remember the bad ones.

He has no business starting in the MLB, but he's what we've got.

Exactly. It's one :censored:-ing game. Any team can look bad for one game. How about we play three or four more games before we decide how awful the Cardinals are? If the Red Sox reel off a four game sweep winning each game by 5-6 runs, we'll talk. Until then, how about we just relax and watch some World Series baseball? If this place is any indication, we've got the series all to ourselves. May as well enjoy it.
