DanSanchez8
Great job by the Rangers.............. they honor the greatest player ever, by having him meet the worst president ever ! I would't say that Derek Jeter is the greatest player ever. I think that honor belongs to Barry Bonds.

TheOldRoman
So, Lester was traded to the A's with Jonny Gomes, with the Red Sox getting Cespedes back. This looks like a pretty horrible trade for Beane.
NJTank
I've accepted that Sabean will be resigning/fired after the season ends. I even have an idea of how he will depart:Either because he's being chased by security, or secure in his resignation.Sabean being fired would be very shocking, but not surprising. 3 National League pennants, (2002, 2010, 2012), 2 World Titles. But in today's sports, how many titles doesn't matter. It's what have you done for me lately.Beat me to it Giants will be sorry if they fired Sabean. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
TheGiantsFan
The Red Sox trade Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes to the A's for Yoenis Cespedes. It's gonna be hard to imagine Cespedes not in an A's uniform... BEHANCE | PORTFOLIO
The_Admiral
So, Lester was traded to the A's with Jonny Gomes, with the Red Sox getting Cespedes back. This looks like a pretty horrible trade for Beane.I don't like the looks of it either, but Billy Beane knows more about baseball than I do. FGM13
The A's had better get a lot out of Lester, because goddamn, Cespedes? Really? Is it worth mortgaging your future for maybe only three months of Jon Lester? GO OILERS-GO BLUE JAYS-GO ESKIMOS-GO COLTS
speedy
As much as I hate to see Lester go, Cespedes is a fantastic pull. Billy Beane pulled a very un-Billy Beane like move, maybe he's sick of losing in the ALDS? No way Lester signs with Oakland. If he doesn't, this is essentially a 3 month rental piece for a 28 year old cost-controlled player until 2017. It'll be very interesting to review this trade in five years.Best of luck, Jon. Hope you come back.
TheOldRoman
Cespedes will be a free agent after next season, and his contract precludes him from being given a qualifying offer. I'm reading things online now that Beane was never really high on Cespedes. I think he's overrated based on what he's produced to-date, but I still think they'd have been able to get more for him. Lester can be really good for them, but now Jonny freaking Gomes is your LF for the playoff push.

Lights Out
Cespedes is too much to give up for a three-month rental. I'm already puking at the thought of Lester going back to a better Red Sox team next year.Looks like the A's also traded Tommy Milone to the Twins for Sam Fuld.... Beane must think a Fuld/Gomes platoon can match Cespedes' production. POTD: 2/4/12 3/4/
crownking30
I hope that if the Red Sox are a better team in the future, and if they are in the World Series soon, and the Cardinals are in it too, that the Cardinals have a chance. That Game 6 broke Michael Wacha's heart, and with a power hitter like Cespedes, it'll be more painful to watch.

Thanks for the clarification.Interesting tweet from Tom Caron here:"Source w/ #Redsox told me team wanted to deal Lester to "team we didn't think could re-sign him." Said Sox will make offer this off-season." @TomCaronThis could be true, or it could be typical Sox front office appeasement material. Yeah we traded Lester, but we'll get him back too! Buy tickets!! Cherington is on the record as saying they want to be competitive in 2015 and are not trading for prospects. Could be dumb, could be smart. We'll see.
