2014 MLB Season Thread

I hope that if the Red Sox are a better team in the future, and if they are in the World Series soon, and the Cardinals are in it too, that the Cardinals have a chance. That Game 6 broke Michael Wacha's heart, and with a power hitter like Cespedes, it'll be more painful to watch.

You're banned from ever mentioning Wacha again.

Fine. I'm just discussing that horrible night. Okay.

I'm just discussing how that night in Fenway lit a burning and irascible passion with this Cardinals ballclub.

Yeah so much so that they lost 12-1 to the worst offense in baseball.

And btw, if they don't win the World Series, the world isn't going to end. We don't believe they have to win it every year or it's a disaster so please stopping acting like we do.

For a terrible WAR player Jonny Gomes has an odd track record of helping teams to the playoffs and/or World Series.

He was on the 2008 Rays, 2010 Reds, that magical 2012 A's team, and that magical 2013 Red Sox team. He's either really lucky to keep getting to go along for the ride or he's a clubhouse witch doctor because he certainly isn't the option at left field.

It's becoming impressive. Maybe he's Wacha speaking in third person?

Cespedes is too much to give up for a three-month rental. I'm already puking at the thought of Lester going back to a better Red Sox team next year.

Looks like the A's also traded Tommy Milone to the Twins for Sam Fuld.... Beane must think a Fuld/Gomes platoon can match Cespedes' production.

Céspedes was a talented player, of course...

2014 OBPs:

1. Fuld (.356)

2. Gomes (.329)

3. Céspedes (.303)

And there ya have it. :D

I know that every year they can't win the World series, but it's sad. Just like how sad it was when the Reds lost to the Giants, but that's another story. As a baseball fan, it hurts in general sometimes.

Great job by the Rangers.............. they honor the greatest player ever, by having him meet the worst president ever ! :)

I would't say that Derek Jeter is the greatest player ever. I think that honor belongs to Barry Bonds.

Judging by your Dodgers avatar, I truly hope you are kidding.

As much as I hate the Giants, I have a great respect for Barry Bonds. Nobody was feared more than him.

I don't think he would have been in the top 10 even if he hadn't gotten into the steroid mess.

Has over 500 stolen bases and over 700 home runs. It's a travesty he's not in the HOF.

You seem to be trapped in a time warp; ignorant of both of history and current events. I'm guessing you still say "WAAAZUUUP?!" when entering a room?

Mod edit: leave politics out of the thread. Both of you.

He was probably a HOFer without the bloated stats in his later years. I don't argue that he should be in.

Yeah he would've. Just look at the numbers he put up early in his career before the steroid issues. Hate the guy or not, he was easily one of the best to ever play the game.

BTW, I HATE the Lester for Cespedes trade. It makes sense for a playoff push, but my God Oakland, at least get SOMETHING you control after this season for him. This is basically the worst I've ever seen Billy Beene panic when he had absolutely no reason to panic.

Oh, and thanks Jason Hammel, you piece of garbage. This wouldn't have happened if he could throw the ball with any more accuracy than Tim Tebow.
