Aw, Blue Jackets :(

Yeah, if you ever needed proof that sports isn't fair, just remember that the Yankees lost to the freakin' Diamondbacks six weeks after 9/11.
Aww, yeah that was just so sad that the Yankees couldn't have won their FOURTH straight World Series that year and had to lose to a team that brought their city it's first ever professional sports championship. How tragic.

I know it's the Yankees, but c'mon! Do you remember what it was like back then? It's hard to argue that they weren't the sentimental favorite that year. I didn't necessarily mean my original comment of "fair" as in they deserved to win, but just that when you see a good story like a team with an emotional backstory or a rookie goalie potentially leading his team back from a 3-0 series deficit... something being a feel-good story doesn't make it any more likely to happen.

Edit: The World Series was played in New York City while the WTC was still on fire! C'mon!

And, what's your point? What do the Yankees have to do with 9/11 other than playing within a fairly close proximity to where the towers fell? It's a sports team, not a military unit. It's not like Derek Jeter was a first responder.

I mean sure, 9/11 brought about a great unification among Americans after a terrible tragedy, but that doesn't mean that people changed their allegiances to pull for a club most everyone outside of the city hated. I for one, couldn't have been any happier for the D Backs to down the Yankees for the simple reason that it just felt normal to hate the Yankees again. Call it part of the "healing process", if you will. Rooting for a sports team to win because of some tragedy that had nothing to do with them has always seemed like a pretty empty tribute, if you ask me.

FWIW, I didn't root for the Red Sox last year after the Boston Marathon bombing, because I can't stand them either, and they're a sports team that had absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Do Yankees fans really believe this crap?

But if he were, you know he would make it look even harder than it really is!

I don't know, I thought it would have been nice for New Yorkers to see their team win in the wake of the horror, but I was also 14 years old and lacked an educated perspective on sports.

What is Quick doing out there? He's really trying to involve himself in this game.

I guess ok for him to grab Couture's leg while he is on the ground away from the play.

There's that. There's him trying to get involved in any scrum near his net. I saw him poking at the Sharks legs during a scrum.

Quick is a weirdo.

QFT.

I've never seen a Kings game where Quick wasn't poking/grabbing/diving around. He's ridiculous.

Hopefully this is the game that snaps that Western Conference home winning streak.

Sharks had some good chances in that third period, and the long power play to start OT (three seconds) should help.

I'm not a Yankees fan, FWIW. Just my experience as a 16 year-old back then that sports was important after 9/11 and the Yankees were embraced nationwide in a non-manufactured way that I didn't see as a 28 year-old in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing. You don't have to agree with me, but I didn't just pull the idea out of my ass: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/following-the-terrorist-attacks-of-sept-11-the-new-york-yankees-became-americas-team-090311

Well that's an odd one.

And the two series I thought would go seven games both get out to 3-0 records. Now does San Jose close it out like Montreal did?

No, trust me, I've heard it plenty of times before. I just never bought into any of it. Even when I was 13.

But anyway, WOO SHARKS!

I thought there was no way they were gonna win considering how narcoleptic they started out in OT. One more!

I guess he's a poor mans Mike Smith then.

This calls for a celebration.

240px-Al_Gore.png

I will.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

Well, now that I've swallowed up my pride, I can talk.

Burns's eephus goal to start the game, 3 of San Jose's 4 goals resulting from LA failing to clear the puck, Voynov giving Patrick Marleau a gift to end the game, it sucks. Pure and wine, it just sucks to have this feeling. But hey, it's playoff hockey. At that point, it's left to chance whether your team succeeds or has its heart broken, and on this night, the Sharks got the precise bounces it needed and utilized it to maximum capacity. And I have to say that Todd McLellan calling timeout to give his team a breather in OT was a wise move.

The Kings have never won a playoff game against the Sharks if it ends up in overtime, now 5-0 lifetime, and with it, the home streak between the two teams died with Marleau's game-winner. I guess I'll be philosophical entering Game 4, like Kramerica was with the Lightning, reminiscing about the best parts of the season for LA and looking at the problems to fix during the offseason. The head of the Kings is now firmly in place inside a guillotine machine with the Sharks holding the lever. Their 1st chance to pull the lever comes Thursday, and I'll still be there to see the possibly bloody outcome happen.
