Women's soccer, despite the national team's success, only gets a lot of coverage in the US every two years for the Women's World Cup and the Olympics. Here are the examples, most of which she covered in her book:1- She was kidnapped by her father when she was 7. Of her birth father, she said, "He was unreliable at best and a criminal at worst. It's a complicated thing, knowing how much pain my father caused in my life and the lives of others whom I love, yet still holding love for him in my heart."NOTE: In 2011, her dad was publicly cleared in 2001 open murder case.2- She was conceived during a conjugal visit when her father was in prison for embezzlement and her mom battled alcoholism. We already know she is a partier.3- When her first HS boyfriend cheated on her, she found the other girl. Upon confrontation, according to Solo, she said, "Hey. You're a :censored:ing sl**," before punching her in the face.4- She failed a USADA drug test claiming it was a med for per-menstrual purposes but contained a diuretic.5- She said that her DWTS partner hit her and when given a choice of a new partner, she said no. As for the lack of cooperation by her and her brother during this week's police investigation, it's clear to me that she is gives and takes a much as anyone.6- Two day before she married Jerramy Stevens, an athlete with his own demons and arrests, he was booked on DV charges which were dropped, but during that incident he was bleeding from the mouth while she was bleeding from her elbow. Hope Solo has appeared on magazine covers, constantly commercialized as an attractive female athlete, and appears in (I would say the most) a significant amount of women's sports advertisements. Whether your a fan of women's soccer or not (I'm not a big fan, just have some common sense), Hope Solo is a recognized athlete. Moreso than a lot of the male athletes that receive conversation for their arrests. I have season tickets for three different professional teams on two continents. I coach youth soccer teams for two of my kids. I have heard of Hope Solo, but I couldn't pick her out of a lineup of two people. If the story isn't getting much press, there's a reason for that beyond some mythical "double standard".
