Forgotten Rivalries

Apparently the Vancouver Canuck's arena got a new DJ this year.

She played Chicago Blackhawk's goal song "Chelsea Dagger" at a Canucks game.

She got trolled forever on Twitter apparently.

The rivalry isn't as heated as it once was, but the hatred is still very much there.

It's probably my locality showing, but the 49ers and Panthers seemed to have a bit of a rivalry going in the late 90s-early 00s until (wait for it) realignment.

Panthers won just about all of them, too.

These conference alignments made no sense, but they were pretty fun:

Those helmets feel more colorful than what we have today.

Imagine using the previous NFL alignment as a study sheet for your U.S. Geography test.

"Where's Arizona?"

"East"

I don't think I'd ever made the connection that the Arizona Cardinals played in the NFC East because they moved from St. Louis, but the St. Louis Rams played in the NFC West because they moved from LA. Just kind of odd that St. Louis was both East and West, but never Central.

That classic NFC Norris. You can practically see the old frozen tundra NFL Films shows now. Bears, Packers, Lions, Vikings, and... oh yeah, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, of course!

The Seahawks in AFC West. I miss those days. I still feel that they don't have a true rival in the NFC. Rams? Niners?

The Niners were well on their way, until they flat out imploded after 2014.

I loved the fact that there was a fairly long period in which the Atlanta Falcons AND Braves were in "west" division.

I saw, I came, I left.

Flipping the Cardinals and Panthers in 1995 would have helped a lot.

It's surprising it took the Texans entering the league to finally do that.

I'm assuming there were some old timers who wanted the Cardinals to stay in the east, but that franchise has had like 4 relevant seasons in the past 50 years.

I'll say. This helmet arrangement is from 1997. :)

Arizona ownership wanted to stay in the East because Dallas games made him the most money. Everyone else finally laughed him off and fixed most of the divisions. Baltimore is not in the north, except in the NFL.

Ideally ATL and CAR would flip with DAL and ARZ.  Even then, NO in the west is a stretch.

You would have a field day with old MLS when the NEW YORK Red Bulls were in the MLS Cup finals in 2008 as a representative of the WESTERN CONFERENCE.
