I am in favor of keeping the uniform as is...but a change needs to happen if the great JoePa is no longer there.First off, he's not great. He essentially let child rape go unpunished. Can his senile ass, and throw him in jail if possible. Secondly, Penn State's uniforms pre-date Joe Paterno. They don't have to change them once he's gone, and nor should they. NJTank
This is truly sad way to see Joe Pa go down, but it is his own fault they should have stopped it when they first found out and it would have only effected Sandusky now by covering for him they are all tarnished. This wont hurt Penn State for 10-15 years this will forever ruin the program. I predict with in five years they will become the Big Ten's punching bag and will be that for the next 20-30 years. They will essentially become Temple. I don't know if this has been mentioned, but it looks like Jerry Sandusky was coy and almost flaunting it when he made his autobiography titled Touched. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_162-57320667-10391697/jerry-sandusky-wrote-a-book-called-touched/ www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
dfwabel
Maybe I missed it, but aren't all of these still allegations? Especially in regards to the individuals not directly involved in the acts it seems everyone has hit the fast forward button. I know a couple admins were questioned but it seems like a lot of conjecture beyond that at this point.Yes, they are allegations, and I understand that sometimes allegations of sexual abuse of a child is hard to prove (see McMartin Daycare Trial), but the GR report indicates that Sandusky knowingly did someting(s) wrong in the 40 counts against him including phone records. Now the indictments of the two staff members for "failure to report" are going to hard to prove since within the university hierarchy, they are in the middle. The 2002 incident in which McQueary saw the alleged assault was the following:McQueary (The witness = not charged)Paterno (Not charged)Curley/Shultz (Only two charged with "failure to report" and "perjury")Spanier (Not charged)

Punch
To borrow a phrase from Tim McCarver... How did this happen?EDIT: Just saw a story on SI.com that says Sandusky was on campus last week. And THAT is why I don't think there's any excuse to make for JoePa...He kept coming on campus (working with kids) and Paterno (at best) just pushed the allegations to the back of his mind.At first I tried to defend JoePa, saying that he did the right thing by reporting it early on. But the various reports of Sandusky being on campus with little boys makes me sick. With State College being the tight community that it is, there is absolutely no way that JoePa didn't know about Sandusky being on campus.
nuordr
He did not break the law, his failures are in being unethical.Isn't that worse? One man's unethical is another ethical...it is such a fine line. I am not saying he was right or wrong...I am not GOD and I do not have that right. I know that ethical means being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct while unethical means lacking moral principles; unwilling to adhere to proper rules of conduct. So once again, I cannot judge a man..so I will just say he was fun to watch coach over my last 3 1/2 decades.

smzimbabwe
I don't think they should get the death penalty, but I do think the NCAA should allow any current Penn State player to transfer to any other school without penalty. I wouldn't want to be associated with all this...

FiddySicks
I learned something in school a few years ago, and while I can't remember it perfectly (not sure if it was literary or historical, or both), it kinda fits here. In life, leaders either go down in scandal and corruption, or they die first. Paterno I think is basically the perfect example of this. Dexter Morgan
I hate that this is about Joe Paterno. The entire program from top to bottom is forever shrouded in disgrace. Joe may have turned many a blind eye to this and contributed to the enabling/protection of Sandusky's activities, but this is so much bigger than the destruction of one coach's legend.Joe Paterno isn't just some coach. He is Penn State aka Paterno State.Paterno and Penn State let this animal bring a little boy to their closed practice in 2007. After all that happened years prior. Disgusting. ARTnSocal
How am I sick when he did nothing wrong according to the law. He reported the first incident with was a lawful thing to do. However, he will be considered to have used unethical behavior for allowing Sandusky back on campus. In addition, if people want to throw stones, then throw them at the VP, the AD, and the first DA who did not prosecute. Do not throw stones at someone's glass house unless your willing for someone to throw them at yours! He reported the first incident to the Athletic Director, who is not associated with the 'law'.The A.D. did nothing as far as reporting it to the law (as it currently appears)
Eye
It may not be immediately, but Pateno will be gone, imo. There is no way the program can continue much longer with him as the head coach whether he knows anything or did anything to report what happened one way or the other. Ted Cunningham
How am I sick when he did nothing wrong according to the law? That's just it though. The law is simply the law. It's not necessarily moral or immoral. It's just a set of rules by which we are governed. While Paterno's actions may have not been illegal, they don't appear to be morally sound. Even though he covered himself, he knew what had happened. If you were in that position and you knew a child had been raped, you'd go to the police, correct? That's something an adult with sound judgment and good morals would do. He shouldn't have been worried solely about the legal implications but rather what was the right thing to do.
